Tiger Woods: when will legend play again on PGA Tour?
By Tim Letcher
Golf fans got a taste of Tiger Woods last week but when will we see him on the PGA Tour again?
As the PGA Tour schedule gets ready to restart next week, there is one big question looming over the world of golf – when will we see Tiger Woods in competitive action again? Woods has not made any announcements about his plans, but there seems to be a logical starting point for the Big Cat.
Woods last played on the PGA Tour in February at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera. It was not the best week for the defending Masters champion, who made the cut but finished 68th after shooting 76-77 on the weekend.

Golf fans did get to see Woods play last weekend, as he and Peyton Manning teamed up to top Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in “The Match: Champions for Charity”, an event that raised money for COVID-19 relief. In that event, Woods was striking the ball well, seemed to have his magical touch back on short shots and looked comfortable on the greens. Granted, he was playing on his home course but Woods’ play gave golf fans a lot to look forward to seeing – whenever he returns.
As Rex Hoggard and Ryan Lavner discussed on the Golf Central podcast last week, Tiger has a lot of options. Yet taking one of those options would be a shocker to almost everyone.
We already know that Tiger is not going to play in the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial next week
The tour goes to the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town the following week, an event where Woods last played in 1999. That doesn’t seem likely to happen.
The week of June 25-28, the tour heads to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship, an event in which Woods has never played. Not going to happen this year either.
The first weekend in July is the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and Woods is not likely to play there, either. Remember, Rocket Mortgage pulled its sponsorship from Tiger’s event in 2018, so that relationship is probably not on great footing.
The John Deere Classic is next. Or it was. That event has now been canceled.
That brings Tiger to the Memorial, which is at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio from July 16-19. This is an event where Tiger has won five times during his career. It’s also hosted by Jack Nicklaus, for whom Tiger has the ultimate regard.
That would mean there would be five events on the PGA Tour before the Big Cat tees it up again. Of course, Woods currently ranks 20th in the FedEx Cup standings, so he’s in no fear of falling out of the playoffs. And, this schedule would allow Woods to do what he loves to do, prepare for the major championships. The first one of the season, the PGA Championship, will be played three weeks after the Memorial.
As much as golf fans around the world would love to see Woods back on the course in June, it’s more likely to be July before we see him. Woods fans will have to be patient but their wait will hopefully pay off once Woods is back on tour.
