As the PGA Tour resumes with the Charles Schwab Challenge, can Jon Rahm finally win at Colonial Country Club?

Jon Rahm has been on the PGA Tour for three years (the current year is his fourth) and the Spaniard has claimed one win in each of his first three seasons.

In 2017, Rahm won at the Farmers Insurance Open. In 2018, he won at the CareerBuilder Challenge, followed by a win in 2019 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he partnered with Ryan Palmer to claim the title. Rahm also has six international victories under his belt during his professional career.

Rahm has shown an affinity for Colonial Country Club, site of this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge and the spot where the PGA Tour schedule will resume. Rahm has played in the event three times, with two very strong showings.

Last season, Rahm missed the cut at the Schwab after a disastrous opening round score of 5-over par 75, followed by a 1-over par 71. However, his previous two trips to Fort Worth were nothing short of stellar.

In his first trip to Colonial in 2017, Rahm came up one shot short of winning. Rahm’s 9-under par cumulative score was one short of winner Kevin Kisner that season.

The following year, Rahm contended again, including a sparkling 6-under par 64 round on Saturday, before ultimately finishing in a tie for fifth place. That’s two top-fives for Rahm in three years at Colonial.

Rahm has yet to win this season, although he has been close on multiple occasions

At the Hero World Challenge, an unofficial event on the PGA Tour, he placed second. He was 10th in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, then was runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The following week, Rahm tied for ninth at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Two weeks later, he tied for 17th at the Genesis Invitational before tying for third at the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship in February. That was the last event Rahm played before the coronavirus break halted all play.

Rahm’s main issue in the past has been his fiery temper, which can kick up at any point. When he is able to control that factor, he’s one of the best players in the world. The evidence of that is his number two ranking in the latest Official World Golf Rankings.

All of these things seem to add up to a potentially big week for Rahm at the Charles Schwab Challenge. It would be no surprise if the 25-year-old earned his fourth PGA Tour win this week.
