PGA Tour: Tyrrell Hatton in position to win in consecutive starts
By Tim Letcher
Tyrrell Hatton finds himself in position to win again on the PGA Tour. After winning the API in March, he’s got a shot at the RBC Heritage this week
At the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational, the last tournament completed on the PGA Tour before the coronavirus shutdown, Tyrrell Hatton was able to hold off the field and earn his first victory on the American tour. Now, at the RBC Heritage, Hatton finds himself in contention to win again.
At the API, Hatton jumped out to a big lead, then had to hold on when conditions got rough on the weekend. Hatton’s 4-under total made him one of just four players to finish under par for the event.

This week is much different as the players are taking on scoring-friendly Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina. However, the week didn’t get off to a start for the Brit, who carded an even par round of 71 in Thursday’s first round.
However, Hatton has made the most of the last two rounds. On Friday, he birdied his opening hole, the 10th, and two other holes on the back side to shoot a 3-under par 32. On the front side, he had four more birdies, all without a bogey, to card a 4-under par 32 on the front side, giving him a 7-under par 64 on his round.
Saturday, Hatton’s hot streak continued
He did not waste any time getting things going in his third round. He birdied the first two holes in his round to get things started.
After a par on the third hole, Hatton birdied the fourth and fifth holes to move to 4-under par on his round. He would finish his front nine with a birdie on number nine to shoot 31 on the front side.
The back nine was much slower to develop for Hatton. He started his inward nine with four straight pars before he was able to birdie the par-3 14th hole. After a par on 15, he was able to birdie the 16th hole to move to 7-under on the day.
Hatton would par number 17 before a birdie on 18, giving him an 8-under par 63 on the day. That tied him with five other players for the lowest round on Saturday at Harbour Town.
On Sunday, Hatton will try to win for the second straight time on tour (he did not play in the Charles Schwab Challenge last week). He will be facing a number of challengers on Sunday, as there are 15 players within two shots of the lead.
Hatton will also be facing another player who is trying to win in consecutive starts. Daniel Berger won last week at the Schwab and is just one shot back at the RBC Heritage this week.
Hatton is trying to stay among the hottest players on the PGA Tour. A win this week will certainly put him into that role.
