Bubba Watson enjoys playing the Travelers Championship. Just look at his record at TPC River Highlands. Can he claim another PGA Tour title this week?

Bubba Watson has made a habit out of winning at the Travelers Championship. In fact, Watson has won the event three times and will be looking for a fourth title as the PGA Tour returns to the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut again this week.

Watson first won at the Travelers in 2010, marking his first career win on the PGA Tour. He would win again in 2015 and once more in 2018. Billy Casper, who claimed the Travelers title four times, is the only player who has won this event more often than Watson.

In 2012, Watson came up one shot shy of Marc Leishman, placing in a tie for second place. He has also recorded a fourth and a tie for sixth at River Highlands. So it goes without saying that Watson will be among the favorites this week.

What makes that even more the case is that Watson comes into this event in good form. As the PGA Tour resumed two weeks ago at the Charles Schwab Challenge, Watson finished in a tie for seventh place. Last week, he was in the middle of the field until a third-round 2-over par 73 took him out of contention. He did shoot a 6-under par 65 on Sunday to tie for 52nd.

Watson has a total of three top 10 finishes this season. In addition to his Schwab finish, he tied for third at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February and tied for sixth in January’s Farmers Insurance Open.

So, looking at things from the outside, there seem to be a lot of things going in Watson’s favor this week

He’s definitely a horse for this course, as proven by his three wins there already. And the fact that he has played well since the PGA Tour’s return just adds to the positive vibes in the Watson camp.

The negative here is that Watson will face a much tougher field this week than he has usually faced in the Travelers Championship. Watson will have to fend off the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka, among others. That will make the task more difficult.

Expect to see Watson’s name on the leaderboard all week at TPC River Highlands. Whether he can win here for the fourth time, while facing such a tough field, remains to be seen. The bet here is that he competes but comes up short. But never count Bubba out at the Travelers.
