PGA Tour: Brendon Todd trying to win for third time this season
By Tim Letcher
With a win on Sunday at the Travelers Championship, Brendon Todd would lead the PGA Tour in victories this season. Can he pull it off?
The current PGA Tour season started very well for Brendon Todd. Now, he’s in position to add another win to his 2020 resume, as he has the lead through 54 holes at the Travelers Championship.
After shooting 66 on Thursday and 65 on Friday, Todd took his game to another level on Saturday. And he wasted little time in getting started.

Todd birdied the first hole, parred the second and birdied the third to quickly get to 2-under par. He would par the fourth and fifth holes before consecutive birdies on numbers six and seven moved him to 4-under par on the day.
After a par at number eight, Todd would birdie the ninth hole to shoot a 5-under par 30 on his first nine. He also moved himself into contention in the tournament in the process.
On the back nine, Todd opened with consecutive pars on numbers 10 and 11. He birdied the 12th hole, then parred the 13th, remaining at 6-under par on his round.
Todd then rang up two straight birdies, on 14 and 15, and he found himself at 8-under par on the day. With three holes to play, whispers of a possible 59 would have been heard among the gallery, had there been a gallery.
Todd parred the 16th hole, taking 59 off the table. He birdied the 17th hole before a closing par on 18, as he recorded a 9-under par 61, tying him with Dustin Johnson for the best round of the day on Saturday. It was the lowest round Todd has ever shot during his PGA Tour career and it gave him a two-shot lead over Johnson.
This is not the first time this season that Todd has been in contention to win
In fact, it’s not even the second. Todd already has two wins this season and is looking to add a third on Sunday.
Todd won at the Bermuda Championship in November, then won two weeks later at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The back-to-back wins moved Todd into first place in the FedEx Cup standings at the time.
He almost made it three in a row the following week, when he came in fourth at the RSM Classic. He would retain the lead in the FedEx Cup standings until after the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Todd entered this week in sixth in the FedEx Cup standings. A win at the Travelers would move him back into first place.
This was not something that many saw coming. Todd is playing for the third straight week, but has missed the cut in both the Charles Schwab Challenge and the RBC Heritage, the two events that the PGA Tour has held since restarting.
If Todd can win on Sunday, it would be the third win of the season and the fourth of his career. And it would move him back into serious contention for the FedEx Cup.
