PGA Tour: winners and losers from the Travelers Championship
By Tim Letcher
There were some notable winners and losers at this week’s Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour
Each week on the PGA Tour, there are winners and losers in each tournament. This week, and continuing throughout the season, we will look at those who achieved and those who underachieved at each event. Here’s a look at the winners and losers from the Travelers Championship.
Winners
Dustin Johnson – He turned 36 years old on Monday and celebrated by winning the title this week at the Travelers. It was Johnson’s 21st career PGA Tour victory and his 13th straight season with at least one win on tour. Johnson continues to be one of the best players in the game.

Will Gordon – A virtual unknown entering the week, Gordon briefly held the lead on Friday and finished the week in a tie for third. Gordon has been playing on the MacKenzie Tour in Canada, but his finish on Sunday gives him temporary PGA Tour membership and will give him many more opportunities to earn his permanent tour card.
Ryan Armour – It was a consistently quiet week for Armour, who shot 67-66-68-64 to finish 15-under par. While he was never really in contention, he was never out of it either. His tie for fourth place lifted him from 143rd to 112th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Scott Stallings – Another player who made a huge jump this week, Stallings shot 66-68-64-67, including a long birdie putt on the last hole, to finish 15-under par. That finish allowed him to jump from 161st to 119th in the FedEx Cup standings, which puts him into the playoffs at this point. Not bad considering this was his first top 25 this season.
Kevin Streelman – He came up just short of catching Johnson, but Streelman had a big week, finishing in a solo second place. In the process, he jumped from 41st to 18th in the FedEx Cup standings, which puts him on a good track for the rest of the season.
Losers
Bubba Watson – The three-time winner of the Travelers Championship was thought to be a contender this week. He shot a 1-under par 69 on Thursday and a 2-under par 68 on Friday, leaving him one shot outside the cut line. A fourth title will have to wait at least one more year for Watson.
Matthew Wolff – Wolff is still a young player, just 21 years old, but this season has been a disappointing one for him nonetheless. This week was just another example of that. Despite his length off the tee, the rest of Wolff’s game is less than stellar, as evidenced by his missed cut this week in Connecticut.
Phil Mickelson – He looked like the Lefty of old early in the week, grabbing the lead after 36 holes of play. But the 50-year-old came back to Earth on the weekend, shooting a 1-over par 71 on Saturday, followed by a 1-over par 71 on Sunday. Mickelson finished in a tie for 24th place for the week, but will always wonder what could have been.
Justin Rose – The Englishman needs to make a move to get himself comfortable inside the FedEx Cup playoffs mark. He entered the week at number 107 and appeared on his way to making the cut after shooting a 67 in the first round. But a second-round 73 took him outside the cut line and will likely drop him about four spots in the FedEx Cup standings.
Justin Thomas – He had been victimized by one poor round in both the Charles Schwab Challenge and the RBC Heritage, where he could have won either time. This week, however, he had two bad rounds. So bad, in fact, that he missed the cut, despite coming in as one of the favorites this week, after shooting consecutive rounds of 71.
