Peter Malnati had one of those days on Saturday while playing at the Workday Charity Open. Malnati hopes he never sees another day on the PGA Tour like it

On Thursday at the Workday Charity Open, this week’s stop on the PGA Tour, Peter Malnati saw his name on the leaderboard. He raced out of the gates and shot a 5-under par 31 on the front nine on Thursday, placing him among the leaders at that point in the day.

Malnati saw he round stall at that point, however. He had a double bogey on the back nine, along with two bogeys, and he settled for 1-over on the back. Still, a round of 4-under par 68 left him just three shots behind Collin Morikawa.

In the second round, Malnati again struggled on the back nine, shooting a 3-over par 39 on the final nine holes at Muirfield Village Golf Club. However, he played the front side in 3-under par to shoot an ever par round of 72 on Friday.

Then Saturday happened. And Malnati probably wishes it hadn’t

His round started benign enough, with a par on the first hole. However, it was all downhill from there for the former Missouri Tiger.

Malnati bogeyed the second hole after a poor bunker shot. He bogeyed the third hole after another poor bunker shot. That moved him to 2-over par on the day.

He would par the fourth and fifth holes to remain at 2-over for the day. But his day suddenly got worse, when his second shot at the sixth hole found the water. That led to a double-bogey six and suddenly Malnati was 4-over for the day.

Malnati was able to par the final three holes on the front nine to complete a 4-over par 40 after nine holes. Unfortunately for him, it was about to get worse.

On the 10th hole, Malnati’s second shot went out of bounds and would ultimately lead to a triple bogey on the hole. Suddenly, his round was falling completely apart.

Malnati settled for a  par on the par-5 11th hole to remain at 7-over par on his round. However, his stretch of over-par holes was still ongoing.

He would miss the green on the par-3 12th hole and would settle for bogey. Then on 13, he found another bunker and struggled to get home from there. He would double bogey the hole to move to 10-over par on his round.

On the 14th hole, Malnati found the water again, trying to drive the short par four. He would take his drop but would ultimately make a bogey, slipping to 11-over par.

To his credit, Malnati kept fighting and was able to par three holes in a row at 15, 16 and 17. But he finished with a bogey on the 18th hole to complete an 8-over par 44 on the back nine and a 12-over par 84 on the day.

The round was the worst of the day, by five shots, on the course and it leaves Malnati in a distance last place. He’s alone in 67th and six shots from Andrew Putnam, who is 66th.

It was a brutal day for Malnati, one that he would quickly like to forget. Luckily for him, he gets to play again tomorrow.
