PGA Tour: Viktor Hovland shines at Workday Charity Open
By Tim Letcher
Viktor Hovland had another big week on the PGA Tour with his third-place finish at the Workday Charity Open
While he wasn’t involved in the playoff at the Workday Charity Open, Viktor Hovland continues to make strides on the PGA Tour. This week was just another example of why the 22-year-old Hovland is one of the best young players in the game.
There has been a trend on social media toward another former Oklahoma State Cowboy, Matthew Wolff, largely due to the fact that Wolff is one of the longer drivers of the golf ball. However, Hovland is by far the more accomplished player at this point.

This week, Hovland made his fourth start since the PGA Tour resumed and, for the fourth time, he finished inside the top 25. This week’s finish was his best of that group, as he was alone in third place at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
Hovland recorded his third top 10 of the season, with one of those being his first win on the PGA Tour. That came at the Puerto Rico Open in February when Hovland edged Josh Teater with a a birdie putt on the 72nd hole.
At the Workday Charity Open this week, Hovland was on his game, at least until the final 18 holes
He shot 69 on Thursday, 67 on Friday and 66 on Saturday. He was still two shots behind Justin Thomas prior to Sunday’s round, when the Oslo, Norway, native shot a 71.
Had he been able to match one of his earlier rounds, Hovland might have found himself in the playoff that was eventually won by another outstanding young player, Collin Morikawa. Instead, Hovland will settle for a third-place showing, one of the best of his young career.
Hovland continues to show that he has the game to compete with anyone on tour. Right now, his game is simply lacking the experience that comes with being a member of the PGA Tour. That experience allows older players to know when to go for it and when to dial it back, as well as where to miss the green, if you are to miss the green. Once Hovland gains that type of experience, he will be even more dangerous than he already is.
While it was in the shadow of another talented youngster, Hovland continues to show a ton of promise on tour. The scary thing for his competition is that the best is yet to come from the extremely talented Hovland.
