PGA Tour: can Tiger Woods win at Memorial Tournament?
By Tim Letcher
Tiger Woods has won the Memorial Tournament five times in his career, but not since 2012. Can he earn a record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour win this week?
Golf fans have not seen him, officially, in months but Tiger Woods returns to the PGA Tour this week. Woods will play at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, an event that has been among Woods’ favorites during his Hall of Fame career.
Woods has not played an official event on the PGA Tour since placing 68th in the Genesis Invitational in February. Fans did see Woods pair with Peyton Manning to beat Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in May’s The Match: Champions for Charity event, in which Woods appeared to be firing on all cylinders with his golf game.

In fact, Woods has only played in three official events during the current PGA Tour season. In addition to the Genesis, Woods tied for ninth at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. He also won the Zozo Championship in October, tying the PGA Tour record for victories in the process.
Now, Woods is finally back and he returns to a spot where he’s had quite a bit of success (yes, there are a number of those). Woods has won five times at Muirfield Village, the most of any player in the tournament’s 44-year history.
However, other than the exhibition match in May, few have seen Woods play in the last few months, so it’s hard to know what to expect from one of, if not the greatest, to ever play the game. What he will be able to do, especially with so much time off, remains to be seen.
It’s probably a safe bet that Woods will find himself in contention this week, based just on his history at the venue
Even with whatever rust Woods brings with him from not playing, the fact that he has had so much success in Central Ohio in the past bodes well for the Big Cat. He will likely feel right at home, even though his last win at the Memorial came in 2012.
No matter what happens this week, it will be good for the tour to have Woods back in the field. Any time Woods plays, the interest in a particular tournament ramps up significantly. While the PGA Tour’s return has been viewed largely as a success, the amount of attention this week will increase significantly with Woods in the field.
While it doesn’t seem likely that Woods will contend this week, Tiger has won under tougher circumstances before. Win or lose, it will be good to have Woods back on the PGA Tour this week. Look for him to make the cut, but probably not win this week in Ohio.
