Fantasy Golf: Sleeper and Undervalued Draftkings Selections for 3M Open
By Kasey Kuhrts
Last week 3/5 of my fantasy golf undervalued selections made the cut in my inaugural weekly fantasy sleepers article. This week we shoot for a perfect score as the PGA Tour heads to Minnesota.
Just to recap, in this article you will only find players under the $8,333 Draftkings average salary. Undervalued selections will be more important than ever this week, in a field that features very few of the top players.
As you should always do, check Hans’ fantasy lineup each and every week to not only see his selections, but read about the course itself. This week I am rostering two of his selections, and one will appear on my undervalued list below.
I will be looking at these key stats this week, strokes gained off the tee and putting, par four efficiency 450-500 yards, greens in regulation percentage, total eagles, and birdie avoidance. As well as recent results, here are my selections:
Carlos Ortiz: $7,700
Ortiz comes in well under the average this week and is a well above average player. He is currently 5th in total eagles, 21st in par four efficiency 450-500 yards, and 39th in bogey avoidance on the tour this season.
Carlos is also coming off back-to-back made cuts at Muirfield Village, one of the toughest courses on the entire tour. Going from there, to one of the easiest courses on tour shouldn’t be that tough for Ortiz. He has made a total of 13 out of 18 cuts this season, and had three top tens overall.
Will Gordon: $7,700
Gordon comes in with the same salary as Ortiz. There is wide belief in the fantasy golf world that one of these guys will be under owned. Although I can’t tell you which one it will be, I know they are both solid choices.
Gordon comes in 8th in greens in regulations percentage with 71.58%. He is also 16th on tour in shots gained off the tee.
Gordon comes into the event having made five of his first eight cuts this season, however he missed his last cut at Rocket Mortgage. Besides that, Morgan has finished no lower than 21st in his previous three events.
Scott Stallings: $7,600
Rostered in my lineup, I really like Stallings this week. He comes in 2nd on the entire tour in total eagles. Along with that, Stallings is 27th on tour in bogey avoidance. And who wouldn’t like the combination of eagles and no bogeys?
Stallings is also coming off five straight made cuts dating back to the Honda Classic. He hasn’t missed a cut since the PGA Tour returned from the shutdown and had a high finish of 6th at the Travelers Championship.
Cameron Tringale: $7,200
Just over a year ago I joined this website, and wrote my first article about Cameron. I thought he was a player to watch then, and one year later I feel the same way.
Tringale comes in 19th in bogey avoidance on the tour, as well as 54th in greens hit in regulation percentage with 68.93%.
Tringale missed the cut at the Workday, but that shouldn’t be any reason to keep him out of your lineup this week. This will be one of the easiest courses the players see all year, and most people felt the Rocket Mortgage played the same way.
At the Rocket Mortgage, Tringale finished 30th, and racked up 20 birdies in four rounds.
Chase Seiffert: $7,000
A member of Hans’ list, Chase comes in after an incredible fourth place finish at the Workday. If he can finish fourth at the Muirfield Village, the sky is the limit.
Seiffert sits 16th in total eagles, and 34th in strokes gained putting this season. Along with his fourth place finish at the Workday, Seiffert has made 10/15 cuts this season.
One thing to be wary of with Seiffert is a high rostered percentage. Coming off his great finish two weeks ago, and his more than reasonable salary, he could be rostered in a ton of leagues. Although I still feel it would be worth it, it is something to consider.
Hudson Swafford: $6,700
The second player I have rostered from this list is Hudson. Swafford sits 6th in par four efficiency 450-500 yards, as well as 25th in bogey avoidance on the PGA Tour.
Swafford missed the cut at the Workday, but again I can’t stress enough that shouldn’t matter when making a lineup this week. He played well at Rocket Mortgage, making the cut and finishing 30th. He finished top 25 at the Honda Classic, and top 10 at the Waste Management back in January.
I have just as much confidence in Hudson this week as I do anyone else on this list. Playing him for his incredibly cheap salary allows me to play four players in the $9,000-$8,600 range.
