BMW Championship: Kevin Kisner in the mix again this week
By Tim Letcher
Kevin Kisner has found his name on the leaderboard more often than not over the past six weeks. That’s the case again this week at the BMW Championship.
Week in and week out on the tour, it seems that there is one big name or another at the top of the leaderboard on the PGA Tour. But one name seems to always be in the mix in the last month and that’s Kevin Kisner. He’s inside the top 10 again at this week’s BMW Championship.
Kisner, the University of Georgia graduate, has played extremely well over his last five events. He tied for 25th at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, rallying on Sunday to shoot a 65. At the PGA Championship, only a second-round 73 kept him from being in the mix to win. Kisner would tie for 19th in the season’s only major.

In the regular season finale, at the Wyndham Championship, Kisner shot 65-64 on the weekend and came up just short, tying for third. That finish, along with a third-place showing at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July, are his best finishes of the season.
Last week in Boston, Kisner got off to an outstanding start in the playoffs. He tied for fourth at the Northern Trust. Of course, he was 13 shots behind winner Dustin Johnson, but his 17-under par score was good, in comparison to everyone else in the field.
This week, at the BMW Championship, Kisner finds himself right in the middle of the action once again. After shooting a 2-over par 72 on Thursday, the South Carolina native shot a 70 on Friday to stay in the mix.
Then on Saturday, Kisner had a very steady round on a very difficult day at Olympia Fields. On his front nine, he had a birdie on the fourth hole and a bogey on the fifth hole. Otherwise, it was seven pars and an even par 35 on the front nine.
Kisner’s back nine was amazingly similar. He had a bogey on the 13th hole, a birdie on the 15th hole and seven pars. It was another even par 35 and a round of 70.
After three rounds, Kisner is 2-over par and tied for sixth place. He’s only three shots behind 54-hole leaders Johnson, who is trying to win for the second straight week, and Hideki Matsuyama.
Kisner is also likely to make it to East Lake for the Tour Championship next week. He’s currently 17th in the standings, up from 23rd to start the week.
It’s been a solid few weeks for Kisner, who seems to always be in the mix on the tour lately. Don’t look for that to change this week or next.
