Fantasy golf fans will be thrilled to hear that a new PGA Tour season starts this Thursday! Let’s take a look at this week’s Safeway Open from a Draftkings perspective.

Before we get into my fantasy golf selections, let’s take a look at the golf course the field will be presented with this week as well as the key player statistics that I will be focusing on for this event.

This event will be contested at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California. This golf course is a par 72 that measures approximately 7,166 yards. This track is a classical golf course with tight tree-lined fairways. It should be noted that this tournament has been held at the Silverado Resort and Spa every year since 2014.

To assist me with determining my fantasy golf/Draftkings selections for this event, I reviewed the statistics of the last three winners of the Safeway Open (all played at Silverado). Having stated that, the key player statistics that I will be focusing on this week are strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approach, GIR (greens in regulation), driving accuracy, and scrambling.

Here are my Draftkings player selections for the Safeway Open!

Brendan Steele $10,000

Steele arrives at this week’s event in good form. He has three top 22 finishes in his last six events on the PGA Tour, including a 13th place result at the Memorial Tournament in July.

I also like the fact that Steele has has won the Safeway Open two times previously (2016, 2017).

Harold Varner III $9,100

The 30 year old American has played 22 tournaments on the PGA Tour since September of 2019. In those 22 events played, Varner III has eight top 30 finishes, including a seventh place result at the Wyndham Championship last month.

Additionally, I like the fact that Varner III has played well at this week’s event in the past. Let me be more specific. Harold has played the Safeway Open five times since 2015. In those five events played, Varner III has three top 17 finishes, including a 14th place result in 2018.

Cameron Davis $8,900

The Australian arrives at this week’s event on the heels of four consecutive top 32 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 12th place result at the 3M Open in July.

In relation to this week’s current listed Safeway Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Davis ranks first in strokes gained putting, 12th in strokes gained tee to green, and 18th in strokes gained off the tee.

It should also be mentioned that Davis finished 17th at the 2018 Safeway Open.

Tyler Duncan $8,400

The 31 year old American has seven top 32 finishes on the PGA Tour in the last 12 months, including a win at the RSM Classic in November.

Duncan is currently ranked sixth in driving accuracy (69.87%) on the PGA Tour.

Robby Shelton $7,100

Shelton has two top 13 finishes in his last four events on the PGA Tour, including a third place result at the 3M Open in July.

Chris Baker $6,400

Baker has made the cut in his last five events played on the PGA Tour. Additionally, he finished 20th at the Wyndham Championship last month.
