Fantasy golf fans will be thrilled to hear that the second major championship of the year will begin this Thursday! Let’s take a look at the United States Open from a DraftKings perspective.

Before I discuss my fantasy golf selections for the U.S. Open let’s take a quick at the golf course and the key player statistics that I feel are the most vital to success this week.

The 2020 United States Open will be played at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York. This golf course is a par 70 that measures 7,477 yards. This track can be best described as a classical golf course that features small undulating green complexes.

Winged Foot Golf Club has previously hosted five United States Opens. The last U.S. Open contested at Winged Foot was in 2006. Additionally, this track hosted the 1997 PGA Championship.

For what it’s worth, Geoff Ogilvy won the 2006 U.S. Open, and Davis Love won the 1997 PGA Championship. An illustration of how difficult Winged Foot can be can clearly be seen in Ogilvy’s winning score in 2006 which was five over par!

The key player statistics that I will be focusing on this week will be proximity to the hole, scrambling, strokes gained ball striking, strokes gained putting, and GIR (greens in regulation).

Here is my fantasy golf/Draftkings player selections for the 2020 United States Open.

Dustin Johnson $11,500

The current number one golfer in the world is playing some outstanding golf. In his last eight events on the PGA Tour, Johnson has three wins and two runner up finishes. Dustin won the Tour Championship in his last event on the PGA Tour. His win at the Tour Championship helped him capture his first FedEx Cup title. I fully expect that Dustin’s outstanding play will continue this week.

Daniel Berger $9,200

The 27-year-old American has played eight tournaments on the PGA Tour since the re-start of the season in June. In those eight events played, Berger has six top 15 finishes, including a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge in June.

It should be noted that Berger has performed well at the United States Open in the past. Berger finished sixth at the 2018 U.S. Open.

Matthew Wolff $7,700

Wolff has five top 22 finishes in his last eight events on the PGA Tour, including a second-place result at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July.

In relation to this week’s current listed United States Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Wolff ranks sixth in strokes gained ball striking and fifth in GIR (greens in regulation).

Alexander Noren $7,100

The 38-year-old has four top 22 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including a third-place result at the 3M Open in July.

Chez Reavie $6,900

The American finished third at last week’s Safeway Open. Additionally, Reavie finished third at the 2019 United States Open.

In relation to this week’s current listed United States Open field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Reavie ranks first in driving accuracy, 17th in strokes gained ball striking, and 20th in scrambling.

Rasmus Hojgaard $6,800

The 19-year-old from Denmark has been playing some outstanding golf on the European Tour. Let me be more specific. Rasmus has five top-six finishes in his last seven events on the European Tour, including a win at the UK Championship last month.
