Tune into NBC to watch the Payne’s Valley match between some of golf’s greatest players, including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Woah now. I had no idea this was happening until just a few hours ago. On NBC this afternoon, there is a fantastic charity match happening at Payne’s Valley between Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Rose.

Yeah, this is happening. In case you aren’t familiar with Payne’s Valley, don’t fret. This is the first public course that Tiger Woods and his crew have built, and part of the reason it is being televised is to showcase the course.

Payne… does it sound familiar to you? It should, as Tiger has named the course after the late/great Payne Stewart. Not only was Payne born close by to where the course is located near the Ozarks in Missouri, but all proceeds from the event are going to the Payne Stewart Family Foundation.

More from Pro Golf Now

I wish this event was happening either later in the day (not really possible since it’s in Missouri and I’m on the West Coast) or on the weekend, as I really want to watch it. You can still listen in to it with the NBC app though.

It’s going to be a mix of three different styles of play fitting the Americans vs. Europe. They’ll start off with best-ball and alternate shot over the first 12 holes, and finish the final seven holes with singles play.

No, that’s not a typo. Six holes of best-ball to start, followed by six of alternate, and seven of singles. 19 holes.

This is because there is an extra hole, a picturesque finish to this incredible course, full of jaw-dropping views. It’s a par-3 and will be one of the most interesting finishes we will see all year.

The fact that this snuck by and wasn’t talked about more is incredible to me. This should have been talked about by all sports outlets, mentioned repeatedly during last week’s major, and been promoted for months. Instead, it popped up this morning.

It’s a beautiful course, and this is the first time that anyone will be playing on it. What a great way to showcase the course by showing some of the best in the world christening the course with a fantastic match for charity, supporting one of the greatest guys to ever grace a golf course in Payne Stewart.

The match started at noon pacific today, and will likely run until 4:30 PM or so. It would’ve been nice if this received more attention (I think I’ve mentioned that once or twice already), and maybe had a little more action added in. There are a ton of pros already taking this week off, why not bring 8 guys here. Throw in some sponsored events like a long drive (Beefy Boy can stay home, or get shown up by someone like Finau or Champ who can outdrive him), have KP’s, with the players making friendly wagers with the winnings going towards that charity.

Even though that isn’t what is going to be happening, we are still in for what is bound to be a fabulous event and one of the most beautiful rounds of golf that you will ever see.
