After an incredible US Open, the PGA Tour heads to the Dominican Republic to play the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship.

There is no argument to be made that the level of talent at Corales Puntacana is anywhere near what it was at the US Open. That doesn’t mean we aren’t going to have some great golf though.

Regardless of the players in the field, we can look forward to a strong tournament that will most likely see some drama heading into Sunday. This is a great chance to get some “easy” FedEx Cup points. The reason there is going to be real drama entering the final round is that for the first time, not only is the Corales Puntacana a full FedEx Cup point event, the winner will also receive an invite to the Masters.

The 2021 Masters, that is. Don’t expect to see this year’s winner of the event at Augusta in November. They get to head there in April 2021 for the regularly scheduled event.

More from Pro Golf Now

If the pattern continues, we are likely to see someone win by four strokes this year. The winning margin has been -4, -1, -4, -1… meaning that -4 is next in line. Golf doesn’t always play by the rules though.

Let’s get to know some of the contenders by taking a look at the players that the staff here at Pro Golf Now thinks is going to win the Corales Puntacana event.

Pat Perez

Hans Geevers

Peter Uihlein

Kathy Bissell

Henrik Stenson

Tim Letcher – I’m not sure why Henrik Stenson is in the field this week but he is clearly the most accomplished player in the group. Let’s go with the former Open champion to win.

Charles Howell III

West Valentine – All the big dogs are taking the week off, so it’s a bit of a mixed bag. I’m going with a guy who has made a ton of money on the Tour but you probably never think of him – Charles Howell III. Chuckie Three Sticks has made over $40 million on Tour by showing up every week. I’m betting he really shows up this week.

Corey Conners

Bill Felber – I’m going to go instead with Corey Conners to bounce back from his disappointing showing at Winged Foot. The reality is there are 100 guys in this field who could win, so we’re all guessing this week.

Mackenzie Hughes

Ryan McNeil Lamswood

Mike Randleman – An excerpt from this week’s power rankings…

“Hughes cashed another big payday with T-3rd at the Travelers Championship. He was off to the races from there as he made six straight cuts and qualified for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational… He played well against an elite field at the Memorial (T-6th) and had a good FedEx Cup Playoffs run (T-13th, T-10th, 14th net/T-7th gross)… Even his MC at the U.S. Open wasn’t woeful. Scores of 72-76 at a demanding Winged Foot only left him one off the weekend.”

Cam Cobey – Pretty weak field this week but he’s played some good golf to end his 2020 season with 3 top 15’s and a Tour Championship berth. I’ll go with the Canadian this week.

Seamus Power

Kasey Kuhrts – An excerpt from this weeks’ sleeper fantasy selection…

“Power finished last season 12th in birdie or better percentage, 20th in par 5 birdie or better, tied for 21st in par 5 scoring, 33rd in driving distance, tied for 34th in greens in regulation, 43rd in par 4 birdie or better, tied for 63rd in par 4 efficiency 400-450 yards, 78th in strokes gained off the tee, and 82nd in strokes gained putting.

Denny McCarthy

Chris O’Day – McCarthy is nothing special when you first glance at his strokes gained from 2020. He was 52nd overall, which is a solid number. 145th off the tee, 143rd on approach, and 141st around the green. All consistently average, if not below. He shines as a putter though and was 1st on tour last season with nearly an entire stroke gained per round. If he can get to the green with decent looks this week, I like the putter to help him find his first win.

Next. Payne’s Valley: Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Rose. dark

Best of luck to everyone playing this week at the Corales Puntacana!
