The Shriners Open begins on Thursday in Las Vegas and the 144 man field features some of the games best. Let’s take a look at some key matchups heading into the 2020  edition.

This year’s Shriners Open is just around the corner and includes one of the strongest fields the tournament has seen to date.  Sadly the field will not include Tony Finau after he tested positive for COVID-19. Finau was one of the few highlighted in my previous article Shriners Hospitals For Children Open 2020: Preview and Picks, be sure to check that out for a brief preview of TPC Summerlin that hosts this week’s event and for my favorite pre-tournament picks to win.

Below we will look at my favorite tournament two ball selections heading into Thursday’s tournament.

Matthew Wolf -118 over Scottie Scheffler -112

Wolf comes into this event after a fine performance in the U.S. Open where he finished runner up to eventual winner Bryson Dechambeau.  Matthew gained over 7 strokes on approach for the week and has three top twenty finishes in his last four starts.  Also, Wolf finished 19th at this same event in 2019.

Scheffler meanwhile returned last week after missing out on the same U.S. Open as a result of a positive COVID-19 test.  Scottie was one of the favorites last week at the Sanderson Farms but showed some signs of rust and finished 37th while recording at a loss of 3 strokes on approach for the tournament.  Scheffler also finished 74th here last year.

Wolf comes in with better form and a better recent history at this event and is my first two ball pick.

Sebastian Munoz -112 over Kevin Na -118

Sebastian comes into this event with four top 25’s in his last five starts.  Munoz also finished 23rd at the Sanderson Farms last week gaining strokes in both approach and putting.

Na comes into this event with great course history including winning the event just last year, he also has a runner-up finish back in 2015.  Kevin’s recent form is concerning however as he has just one top 30 finish in his last five events and two missed cuts.  Na missed the cut in his last start while losing strokes in every statistical category.

I’ll side with Munoz in this spot as the golfer coming in with the better form and hope that Na surely doesn’t gain over 14 strokes putting again as he did last year here.

Cameron Davis -112 over Zach Johnson -118

Cameron comes into this event with three top ’20s in his previous five starts, including a 6th at Sanderson Farms last week where he gained across the board from a statistical perspective.  Davis produced a top 30 finish at the Shriners last year in just his second start.

While Johnson also comes into this event in fantastic form it is his history at this event that has me concerned with a missed cut here last year and 40th finish back in 2015.

Cameron looked excellent last week and has looked like he is on the verge of a second PGA win for a while now, all of this makes the Aussie my third and final two ball selection for this week.
