In today’s version of golf tips, I suggest taking an unusual approach to a date with your significant other… playing in a couple’s scramble.

For years, I’ve been trying to convince my wife to get out on the golf course with me. I’ve gotten her to the driving range a couple of times, but it just isn’t the same as playing on the actual course. For today’s golf tips, I have a good idea for you to use to try and get your wife (or husband if you are the golfer in the relationship) out on the course.

Find a couples scramble to play. Especially if you can find another couple to play alongside.

This is exactly what we did recently, and it was fantastic, albeit a little cold. Luckily, it didn’t rain, or else I think my wife would’ve ended with a much different feeling on how it all went.

What made it great, and a good way to get extra couples out there, especially those with kids, was to limit it to nine holes. As anyone with young kids knows, trying to find a sitter for a full 18 plus dinner isn’t the easiest thing to accomplish. When it’s just nine holes and lunch, it becomes much more manageable.

There is one thing to take into consideration against doing this. If you are uber-competitive, and your significant other doesn’t play often, do not do this. Neither one of you are likely to end up very happy afterward. Especially if the setup for yours is similar to the one that we played in. You needed four drives from each person.

So, if you were like me and my buddy, you had to think ahead and plan which four holes you were going to use your wife’s drive on.

Go out and play with your spouse, and make it a double date if you can. I can’t think of a better recommendation for golf tips to make you both happy.

It still made for a wonderful day though. I got to hang out with my wife, sans kids, on a double date. The two wives even had matching sweatshirts. Sure, it was a bit colder out than they would’ve liked, but they still had a lot of fun. Playing with people you know helps keep it light and enjoyable.

I was a little worried about how it was going to go when we started out. Low and behold, my wife made three putts from between 12-20 feet throughout the first four holes, all of which were to save par. Maybe she read my article on putting? She even stuck a couple of short chips to five feet or so.

We didn’t win, but that wasn’t the point of the day. It was a great way to get out and do something that I love, with the person that I love. Getting to involve her in something like golf, and find out that she wants to go out and do it again made for a great day.

Now, if we can just find some couple scrambles going on when it is 75 degrees or warmer out, I won’t even have to ask her to go. She will probably be the one who finds out about it.
