Adam Scott prefers to keep a light playing schedule even in normal times. Contracting COVID-19 made it even lighter.

The 14-time PGA Tour winner was set to make his first start since the U.S. Open at the Zozo Championship until a positive COVID-19 test forced his withdrawal.

News has been pretty quiet about his recovery, but it seems to be a good sign he’s giving it a go this week in prep for the Masters. Scott is looking for his second green jacket after winning in 2013.

This week is important for the Aussie to round into form. He’s played just four times since golf resumed in June. He waited until the PGA Championship to return where he finished T-22nd.

Scott, 40, advanced to the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and posted T-38th at the U.S. Open. Not bad, but not the same level he showed when he won the Australian PGA Championship in December and the Genesis Invitational in February.

The former UNLV Runnin’ Rebel ranked ninth on Tour last season in strokes gained around the green (.424) and was 49th in putting (.269). Ball striking stats weren’t elite as usual, but I expect an uptick from a man with one of the sweeter swings in golf.

Scott was fourth in SG tee to green (1.483) in 2018-19.

Scott has won four times in Texas at four different events: the 2007 Houston Open, 2008 Byron Nelson, 2010 Texas Open and 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational.
