Fantasy golf fans can finally rejoice! The 2020 Masters is finally here. Let’s take a look at the year’s last major from a DFS perspective!

Before I discuss my Draftkings/fantasy golf player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

The key statistics that I will be focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained ball striking, scrambling, and strokes gained putting.

Here are my DraftKings/fantasy golf player selections for the 2020 Masters.

Dustin Johnson $10,000

The 2020 FedEx Cup champion has played some outstanding golf this year. How great has he played? Well, let’s take a look at Johnson’s last ten events played. In his last ten tournaments played on the PGA Tour Dustin has an impressive nine top 17 finishes, including three wins (Travelers Championship, Northern Trust, Tour Championship). Clearly, there is a reason that Johnson is currently the number one golfer in the world.

Johnson also has three previous top-six finishes at the Masters, including a second-place result in 2019. I don’t see a scenario where Dustin is not contending on Sunday afternoon.

Bubba Watson $9,000

The 41-year-old American seems to have his game peaking at the right time. Let’s take a quick look at a few of Watson’s recent quality results on the PGA Tour. In August, Watson finished 18th at the Northern Trust and 16th at the BMW Championship (Both FedEx Cup playoff events). Last month, Watson finished 7th at the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek and fourth at the ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood.

Let us not forget that Bubba has won the Masters twice (2012,2014). Watson also finished fifth at the 2018 Masters. I think it’s safe to say that Bubba likes playing golf at Augusta National.

Tony Finau $8,800

The 31-year-old has competed in the Masters only two times. Finau has certainly made the most of those opportunities. Tony’s two finishes at the Masters: tenth-2018, fifth-2019.

Finau also arrives at this year’s Masters in very good form. Since the beginning of September, the American has played five events on the PGA Tour. In those five events played, Finau has four top 17 finishes, including an eighth-place result at the U.S. Open.

Hideki Matsuyama $8,700

In relation to this week’s current listed 2020 Masters field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Hideki ranks sixth in scrambling, 12th in strokes gained approach, and 13th in strokes gained ball striking.

Matsuyama fired a final round 63 at last week’s Houston Open on his way to a second-place finish.

Zach Johnson $6,800

To be perfectly honest, I am very surprised that Johnson arrives on the Draftkings slate at the low price of $6,800. In my opinion, it’s borderline disrespectful for him to be priced that low considering how well the two-time major champion has been playing lately. We should also not forget that Johnson won the Masters in 2007.

An example of Zach’s recent quality play can be seen in his eighth-place result at the U.S. Open and his seventh-place finish at the Wyndham Championship.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2020 Masters field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Zach ranks fourth in GIR (greens in regulation), eighth in strokes gained putting, and fifth in strokes gained approach.

Justin Harding $6,300

The 34-year-old South African plays the majority of his events on the European Tour. In his last six events played on the European Tour, Harding has three top 30 finishes, including a third-place result at the Andalucia Masters in September.

It should also be noted that Harding finished 12th at the 2019 Masters.
