Tiger Woods did something we’ve never seen him do at the Masters before. Then he did something we are completely used to seeing.

Tiger Woods has had more than his share of glorious moments at the Masters over the years. On Sunday, however, he suffered one of the more humbling moments of his career at Augusta National.

Woods was not having a great round of golf on Sunday. He started the day at 5-under par and without a realistic chance to win. But he was hoping to make something happen and perhaps get himself into the top 10.

Tiger had a birdie on the second hole to get under par for his round. However, he would bogey the fifth and the seventh holes and would finish his front nine with a 1-over par 37.

The back nine started with a bogey on the 10th hole. He followed that with a par on the 11th to stay at 2-over for his Sunday round.

Woods then went to the famous par-3 12th hole where he did something we’ve never seen him do before.

Tiger hit his tee shot onto the bank short of the 12th green, but it trickled back into Rae’s Creek. His third shot, from the drop zone, actually hit the green but the backspin pulled it back off the green, down the slope and into Rae’s Creek again.

With his fifth shot, Tiger was not going to go into the water again. Instead, he went long and into the bunker. His sixth, from the bunker, came with an awkward stance and Tiger got a lot more of the ball than he intended to, flying the green and back into Rae’s Creek.

His eighth shot on the par three, again from the awkward stance in the bunker, got Woods onto the fringe. His ninth shot, a putt, slipped just by the cup to the left. And Tiger tapped in for a 10. That was seven over par on one hole, something we never thought we would see from the Big Cat.

Most players would have given up on the round at that point. Instead, Woods used it as fuel as he headed for home.

Tiger birdied the 13th hole before a par on the 14th. That would be his final par of the day.

Woods closed his round, and the defense of his green jacket, with birdies on 15, 16, 17 and 18. That left him with a round of 4-over par 76, which is not bad at all, especially considering he was 7-over par on one hole.
