We continue our series of golfers who could break out in 2021, and look at everyone’s favorite bucket hat, Joel Dahmen.

Here is one of the ones that are likely going to make you pause a little bit. “Hold on, Joel Dahmen… isn’t he the guy with the funky hat, and hasn’t he been pretty good for a while now?”

Yes, yes he has, and yes he is… but no, he hasn’t been. That is if you are counting “good” as someone who is winning on Tour or has found at least one. Heading into this, I thought Dahmen definitely would’ve found a win on Tour so far. It just hasn’t been the case. He does rock a solid bucket hat though.

He was at the top of plenty of leaderboards this past season, including making a bit of noise at the PGA Championship when he finished T-10th. His best finish is second place, which last happened at the Wells Fargo in 2019. After five top-ten finishes in 2020, he still managed to earn over $2 million but is still chasing that first win.

There is no reason not to believe that at some point, Dahmen is going to find his first win on the PGA Tour. With the constant events, nearly week in and week out, that are available, he has a better chance than most to take home a W. Especially when you look at some of the surprising names that have won over the last few years.

It’s going to come down, as it often does, to Dahmen improving on his short game. He’s slowly been getting better over his career and is making a push towards the average to the above-average range, although he still has a long way to go. From 2018-2020, he was good to great off the tee and on approach shots, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
