You may have noticed them when driving around. Should you play a nine-hole golf course?

There is a lot of different groups or cliques when it comes to golfing. For those of us who take it a bit more seriously, it’s quite possible that you have never entertained playing at a nine-hole golf course.

It could be due to a multitude of reasons. Maybe you only ever want to play 18 holes. You’ve got the time out of your day to get out and play, so you’re going to take advantage of it. Totally understandable.

Maybe, you worry that the course isn’t going to be up to standard with what you would see at an 18 hole course. That it wouldn’t be cared for as much, be in good shape, or have the amenities that you are used to seeing.

Or, you’ve heard that it just isn’t as long as a normal course. It makes sense. Likely, the nine-hole golf course has sort of been “smushed” into a small area, and you get whatever they were able to come up with.

All of these might be a reason. You are still missing out if you don’t at least try a nine-hole golf course.

There is a nine-hole golf course near where I live, and it is considered as the top nine-hole golf course in the state of Washington… or so they say. It shouldn’t be held in the same conversation as being one of the top golf courses, even in our area. What it is though, is a nifty little course that stays pretty busy, and is still joyful to play, even a bit challenging if you aren’t careful.

If you go play a nine-hole, you are likely going to run into the same situation where you are. A lot, and I mean A LOT, of out of bounds. Whether it is housing, fields, water towers, silos, or something in between, you are going to need to keep the ball straight in order to score. Yeah, talking to you Beefy Bryson.

Now, a great golfer is going to score easily at a nine-hole, especially if it is like my local one. Only a par 34, the course sits just shy of 2600 yards from the whites. No par fives, and nothing even over 400 yards. What you do get though, is a lot of OB, tree-lines fairways, trouble areas, and hills around the green that can make chipping more difficult than your average course.

That being said, playing a course like this can definitely make you better. You are going to get a lot of work on your irons and making sure that they hit the fairway. Not only that, but you are going to need to work on hitting specific areas if you want to score. You are going to get a lot of work on wedges as well.

What if you only have 2.5 hours, but you want to get some golf in? Boom! The nine-hole golf course is perfect for you. You still get the sense of accomplishment from finishing your round, as once you walk off the 9th hole you feel like you’ve played the course.

Although it’s different than what you would expect from a regular course, it can still make for a fun, engaging, and challenging round by heading out and playing a nine-hole golf course. Try and find one near you, and give it a try.
