Bald Eagle Golf Club was recently introduced to the nation amidst the COVID crisis in part to its unique scenario.

You wouldn’t be alone if you had not heard of Bald Eagle Golf Club. It’s located in Point Roberts, WA. If you aren’t familiar with Point Roberts, it’s arguably the most interesting location in the United States.

Not because of what is there. Not because of anything interesting or famous that they are known for. It’s because of the unique situation they find themselves in. Point Roberts is part of Washington, but the only way to get there is either by driving through Canada for 45 minutes from the nearest border crossing or taking a ferry.

It’s a small chunk of Washington, measuring under five square miles, and is home to Bald Eagle Golf Club. It’s recently been restored, and is quite the course, although no one has been able to play there since all the COVID lockdowns and restrictions started happening.

I’m bringing this course up as a prime example of showing why advertising matters, and why getting exposure for a course is incredibly important.

I live one hour away (I’m tucked up in the Northwest corner of Washington), and have never heard of this course. I’m not trying to say that I know everything about golf, but I feel like I am tuned in more than the average golfer. Between this site, coaching high school, knowing some low-level pros, and being involved at a couple of courses, I am usually fairly aware of what’s going on.

It isn’t just me. Nearly everyone I talk to in the golf world was unaware of this course. The fact that it is so close, inexpensive, and from the reviews and pictures looks like a great course, it definitely should be better known. They could receive a large amount of traffic from where I live (a pretty big golf area/golf community), all who live within an hour or so.

Taking an hour drive to get somewhere for golf isn’t that bad. Bald Eagle Golf Club could find tons of new golfers, just by trying a little bit.

Now, I don’t work in the world of advertising, but getting the word out there isn’t that difficult. Pair with a course, or multiple courses in the states, and set up a deal where if you come in and mention that course, you get X% off your green fee. It could go both ways.

Originally, the course went under/almost went under before being purchased by a new group. They could have avoided this and brought in a course-saving amount of golfers by making themselves better known. Plenty of Canadians come to Washington to golf. How about getting people from Washington to come and play in Washington (at least at Point Roberts I mean).

The recent exposure to the golf world has done enough for me to know one thing. Once things get back to relative normality, I’ll be making a trip to Bald Eagle Golf Club to play a round, finally.
