Sony Open: Winners and Losers from Week Two Hawaii
By Tim Letcher
Find out who the winners were at this week’s PGA Tour stop, the Sony Open, including Kevin Na, Chris Kirk and Jason Kokrak.
Each week on the PGA Tour, there are those who do better than expected and those who fall short of expectations. Here are Pro Golf Now, we call them winners and losers. Here are this week’s winners and losers from the Sony Open.
Winners
Kevin Na – It didn’t look like Na would be a factor on the weekend at the Sony Open. Then, he fired a third-round 61 and suddenly, we was in contention. On Sunday, he made four birdies on the last six holes, including a birdie at 18, that gave him the win.

Chris Kirk – Consistency led Kirk to a second-place finish in Hawaii this week. He shot 65. Every. Day. All four rounds. And that allowed him to jump 98 spots in the FedEx Cup standings. It was his highest finish in nearly four years.
Joaquin Niemann – His solid play continued this week in Honolulu. Niemann Opened with a 62 and shot 63 on Saturday. If not for a 69 on Friday, he very well may have won this week. Still, it was a second straight second-place finish for Niemann this week.
Marc Leishman – The Aussie had gotten off to a slow start in 2020-21 but he earned his first Top 10 of the season this week with a T4. Leishman shot 65 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after opening with a 66.
Brendan Steele – The Sunday finish was not what he wanted, but it was still a good week for Steele. He led through 54 holes but a 69 on Sunday left him at T4. He jumped 82 spots in the FedEx Cup standings from 177th to 95th.
Losers
Abraham Ancer – One of the better players in this week’s field, Ancer blew his chance to make the cut on Friday. A three-putt bogey on the sixth hole ended up being costly, as Ancer missed the cut by just one shot.
Jason Kokrak – It was all or nothing for Kokrak this week. When he was good (Thursday 62 and Saturday 66), he was good. But when he was bad (71 on Friday and 72 on Sunday), he was bad. Blowing a round of 62 is not ideal on the PGA Tour.
Tyler McCumber – The 2020-21 season has been a good one for McCumber so far, but this was not his week. He shot 72 on Thursday and 73 on Friday to miss the cut by a whopping nine shots.
J.T. Poston – Things started off nicely for Poston, who shot 65 on Thursday and was just three off the lead after 18 holes. However, he followed that with a 74 on Friday to miss the cut.
Nate Lashley – Each week, someone has to finish last. This week, it was Lashley, who just never had it going at all. He made only three birdies over 36 holes and finished 9-over par, a full 13 shots outside the cut line.
