After a reshuffled schedule in 2020 golf and all its fans will be hoping that the 2021 outlook returns to normal and that all four major championships will go ahead as scheduled in their more traditional spots on the golfing calendar.

THE MASTERS (APRIL 8-11TH)

It was just a couple of months ago that we saw an Autumn Masters for the first time ever, an event traditionally held during the spring in April was postponed during 2020 before finally being able to take place without Patrons (Fans) in November. It was the World number one Dustin Johnson who produced an absolutely dominant performance on his way to his first green jacket and second Major Championship when all was said and done.

Augusta National will host 2021’s first Major in April and we will once again get to welcome in springtime with the playing of the 85th edition of this prestigious event on the golfing calendar.

More from Pro Golf Now

 Justin Thomas +1000

The price is short on JT right now but I honestly believe he will be wearing the green jacket come April. Augusta National is very well suited for Thomas’s game as he is one of the best iron players on the planet, and has an incredible around the green and short game. In the end, it will come down to the putter as it often does with him, but after gradually improving finishes including 12th in 2019 and 4th last year he is could very well be on the cusp of winning this in a few months.

Sungjae Im +3300

Im got his first taste of Augusta National back in November and put in an incredible debut performance on his way to a 2nd place finish. I’m expecting a big year for Sungjae who is still one of the younger players on Tour and if he gets off to a hot start in 2021 this number could very well shorten.

The Korean showed he has the game to succeed at the Masters already and he has one of the more complete overall games on Tour specifically from tee to green.

PGA CHAMPIONSHIP (MAY 20-23RD)

The second Major of the year will return to Kiawah Island and it’s ocean course in South Carolina in May of 2021. Kiawah last hosted a Major in 2012 when Rory Mcllroy won his second Major Championship and first PGA Championship. The course is another Pete Dye design and it features some of the most spectacular views in golf.

Early picks for the 103rd PGA Championship

Tommy Fleetwood +3300

While it’s hard to not select Dustin Johnson in South Carolina I’m going to pick the Englishman Tommy Fleetwood to win his first Major championship here in 2021. Fleetwood has been close in Majors before including a 4th and a 2nd at the U.S. Open, and a 2nd at the last Open Championship back in 2019 when held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Fleetwood had a rough stretch of golf last year but started to return to form near the end of 2020 with a 10th at the DP World Tour Championship and a 19th at the Masters most notably. Tommy has shown an ability to compete at difficult courses and should like his chances at another coastal course.

Daniel Berger +3300

Berger is another player who I like to have a big year and he has started 2021 in fine fashion already with a 10th last week at the Sentry TOC. The 13th ranked player in the world was unfortunate to miss out on the Masters last time around but showed what he was capable of at the PGA Championship in 2020 when he finished 13th at the event held in early August last year.

Daniel also has had a great amount of success on Pete Dye courses throughout his career and the Florida native should be comfortable at another coastal venue in May.

Sungjae Im +5000

I really do think a big year is coming for the young Korean and I like his game to set up well in South Carolina as well. Not only is Sungjae great with his irons, but he also displayed a great short game at Augusta National. Im has the game to compete in Majors and I think it is only a matter of time before he picks up his first Major win.

U.S. OPEN (JUNE 17-20TH)

The U.S. Open shifts back to the West Coast in 2021 and will take place at the magnificent Torrey Pines in Southern California later this year. One of the mainstays on the PGA Tour every season Torrey Pines plays host to the Farmers Insurance Open each year albeit on a rotation over the week between both the north and south courses. The 121st U.S. Open will take place on the South Course come the summer.

Torrey Pines last hosted a Major Championship in 2008 when Tiger Woods emerged victorious after a Playoff win over Rocco Mediate.

Early picks for the 121st U.S. Open

Jon Rahm +1100

It’s just a matter of time before the world number 2 wins his first Major Championship, what better place to do so than a place he has had so much success already in his young career?. Rahm will feel right at home at Torrey Pines and he has a phenomenal track record here with a win in 2017, a 5th in 2019, and a 2nd last year. Jon is incredibly talented and I like him to win the first of many career Majors at Torrey Pines this year.

Tony Finau +3300

I think 2021 is going to be the year of breakout wins and you can add Finau to that list. Tony has long been on the cusp of victory especially with consistent top-ten finishes in Majors throughout his career. Finau is one the best in the world off the tee and he excels on difficult and challenging courses.

The World number 20 is another who has had success at Torrey in the past as well with a 4th in 2017, 6th in 2018, 13th in 2019, and another 6th place finish here last year.

Gary Woodland +8000

The U.S. Open returns to California and the last time it took place on the West Coast Woodland won his first Major at Pebble Beach. Gary struggled last year and dealt with injuries throughout a good portion of the year, the hope is that he will return to a healthy state this year and again become one of the more consistent players in the game.

Gary has finished 20th in 2017, 12th in 2018, and 9th in 2019 at this course in the past, and after his first Major came in this part of the world it is not a stretch to think that he can’t have success again here this summer.

THE 149TH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP (JULY 15-18TH)

The 149th playing of The Open Championship is set to place in July this year after it was postponed in 2020. It is again set to take place at Royal St George’s in England this summer with the 150th Open set to take place in 2022 at St Andrew’s. The last time the Open was held was back in 2019 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and it was Shane Lowry who became Champion Golfer of the year.

Royal St George’s will host the Open for the first time since 2011 when Darren Clarke emerged victorious over Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.

Early picks for the 149th Open

Tommy Fleetwood +2800

Tommy would love to win this one and who is to say he will not. After a spectacular showing at the last Open Championship, it would not surprise me one bit to see Fleetwood emerge victorious in his home country.

Tommy is another whose results at a Major Championship have gradually improved each time, in addition to his 2nd place finish in 2019 Fleetwood has a 27th in 2017 and a 12th in 2018 at the Open Championship. The Englishman is one of the best players in the world in windy conditions and he loves links golf so it would not come as a surprise if his first Major breakthrough came at The Open.

Lee Westwood +6600

Westwood missed the cut the last time The Open was held at Royal St George’s but he came close to winning The Open in 2019 with a 4th at Royal Portrush. Lee would be another popular winner as he searches for his first Major win after an incredible career. Westwood has been close on numerous occasions to doing so including two runner-up finishes at the Masters, and a 3rd at the U.S. Open. It would be quite the storybook conclusion if he was able to win his first Major in his homeland, and really who wouldn’t want to see that?.

Joaquin Niemann +8000

Another talented young player who is close to great things and who excels in difficult conditions. The Chilean really took progressive steps in 2020 that included three top 5 finishes and multiple top 20’s. Niemann does not look like slowing down anytime soon either as he picked up a 2nd place finish just last week at the Sentry TOC. Links golf should also be to Niemann’s liking as he is one of the better players from tee to green in windy conditions.
