American Express: Five Groups to Watch on Thursday

The American Express gets underway on Thursday and it features a field that has some star power. While the world’s very best will not be in attendance, there are still some stars to watch this week. Here are the best groups to watch on Thursday and Friday.

Tony Finau, Matthew Wolff and Kevin Na (1:50 ET) – Finau is one of the most talented players on tour, despite just one tour victory so far in his career. Wolff is the long-hitting, confident young player who has already made a huge impact on tour. And Na is coming off of a win at last week’s Sony Open.

Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Patrick Cantlay (12:50 ET) – Mickelson is one of the all-time greats on the PGA Tour and a two-time winner of this event. Fowler is the player for which everyone continues to wait for his big break out. And Cantlay is one of the brightest, most talented young players in the game.

Gary Woodland, Andrew Landry, Patrick Reed (1:40 ET) – Woodland is a former U.S. Open champion and a very consistent player on tour. Landry is the defending champion at this event, who also lost in a playoff to Jon Rahm here in 2018. And Reed is the 2014 champion of this event at a former Masters champion.

Paul Casey, Cameron Champ, Brooks Koepka (12:40 ET) – Casey is a steady veteran who has played well lately. Champ is one of the longest hitters on tour and a rising star. Koepka is another long hitter and a four-time major champion.

Abraham Ancer, Scottie Scheffler, John Senden (12:10 ET) – Ancer is an up-and-coming, talented player who has already shown that he can play with anyone. Scheffler was the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year last season and is still just 24 years of age. Senden is a veteran and a two-time winner on the PGA Tour.

These are five groups that will draw the most attention on Thursday and Friday in California. It would be no surprise if this week’s winner is among these 15 players.
