Fantasy Golf: 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open Draftkings Preview
By Hans Geevers
For my money, the Waste Management Phoenix Open is by far the most fan friendly event on the PGA Tour schedule. The event usually draws massive crowds every year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will only allow approximately 5,000 fans each day. Regardless, I am quite sure that the fantasy golf community will still be presented with an outstanding event on television as always.
The 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played at TPC Scottsdale. The golf course is a par 71 that measures 7,266 yards. This track features undulating Bermuda grass fairways and relatively average size Bermuda grass greens. Bunkers guard the majority of greens. This course also features a par four (17th hole) that is reachable for the long hitters in the field.

The key statistics that I will be focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), strokes gained to green, strokes gained approach, driving accuracy and driving distance.
*Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Here are my Draftkings player selections for the Waste Management Phoenix Open!
Xander Schauffele $11,000
The American arrives at this week’s PGA Tour event on the heels of four consecutive top 17 finishes, including a fifth place result at the Sentry Tournament Of Champions.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Waste Management Phoenix Open field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Schauffele ranks 10th in strokes gained approach, ninth in strokes gained tee to green, and 14th in strokes gained putting.
Sungjae Im $9,400
Im has four top 14 finishes in his last events seven events (PGA and European Tours combined), including an impressive second place result at the Masters in November.
Corey Conners $7,900
This week, I want outstanding ball strikers in my fantasy golf player pool. Having stated that, I am rolling with Corey Conners. The Canadian is known to be one of the best pure ball strikers on the PGA Tour. Conners has three top 17 finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour.
Brendan Steele $7,400
Continuing to illustrate my belief that finding great ball strikers is essential this week, the next golfer in my fantasy golf player pool will be Brendan Steele. Steele finished fourth at the Sony Open last month.
Adam Hadwin $7,300
The 33 year old has played the Waste Management Phoenix Open every year since 2016. In those five events just mentioned, Hadwin has two top 17 finishes, including a 12th place result at the 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Luke List $7,200
The 36 year old American has two consecutive top 21 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a tenth place result at last week’s Farmers Insurance Open. List also finished 25th at the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
As always, good luck.
