Arnold Palmer Invitational: Five Stories to Watch on Sunday
By Tim Letcher
As the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational approaches on Sunday, there are a number of storylines to watch. And there’s a little something for everyone. Here are the stories to keep an eye on during Sunday’s final round.
Is this the week that Jordan Spieth finally gets over the hump? – He’s been playing much better over the last month and he’s been close, but Spieth has not gotten a win yet. After making a hole-in-one on the second hole during his Saturday round, Spieth appeared to have momentum, but he ended the day two shots behind Lee Westwood. Can Spieth break through on Sunday?

Can Lee Westwood win in the U.S. for the first time since 2010? – It’s hard to believe that a player like Westwood, who has 44 career victories worldwide, has won just twice on the PGA Tour. He won the Freeport-McDermott Classic in 1998 and the St. Jude Classic in 2010. At age 47, can he add a third U.S. title?
Is Bryson DeChambeau the favorite on Sunday? – Probably. He’s just one shot behind Westwood with 18 holes left, coming off a 68 on Saturday. Look for DeChambeau to bomb and gouge his way around Bay Hill again on Sunday. If he can make an average number of putts, he will probably win.
Who could come from behind and win? – The most likely candidate would be Rory McIlroy, who sits four shots behind the lead with 18 holes to play. After a 66 on Thursday, McIlroy has shot 71-72 in the last two rounds. If he can come back with a 66, or even lower, on Sunday, he may find himself right in the mix.
Who is most likely to disappoint on Sunday? – It would be no surprise if it’s Keegan Bradley. After shooting 64 on Saturday to get himself into the mix, Bradley isn’t likely to have that kind of round again on Sunday. His week has gone 69-74-64, so he’s due to go in the other direction.
These storylines and more will be worth watching during Sunday’s coverage from Bay Hill.
