Fantasy Golf: Sleeper DraftKings Selections for The Players Championship
By Kasey Kuhrts
My sleeper and undervalued DraftKings fantasy golf selections are back just in time for The Players Championship!
It’s crazy to think it has already been a year since The Players Championship was cancelled after one round of play. However, a year later, golf fans around the world are ready to see the strongest field in golf take on the island green.
As always, check out Hans Geevers full-lineup picks that he posts each and every week. Hans’ article is also great for reading about the course, and how he believes it will play.
And of course, as always in my articles, I am only looking at players under the average DraftKings salary of $8,333. Finding value is the most important thing when making your selections, so I hope to bring you some solid options.
The key stats I will be looking at this week will be strokes gained on approach, putting, and around-the-green, greens in regulation, driving accuracy, and par 5 efficiency 550-600 yards. Here are my selections:
Adam Scott $8,100
This week each range gets two selections, and my first 8K selection is Adam Scott. Not only has Adam Scott not missed a cut so far in the super season, but Scott has made eight-straight cuts at The Players, including four straight top 12 finishes.
So far this season, Scott doesn’t have great stats in the key stats I looked at. His best is 41st on tour in strokes gained putting. However, going with Scott is more about his history at Sawgrass.
Jason Day $8,000
In a similar situation as Adam Scott, Jason Day comes in with incredible course history at Sawgrass. Day has made four straight cuts at this event, highlighted by a victory in the 2016 Players Championship, as well as a fifth place finish in 2018 and eighth place in 2019.
So far this season, Day sits 69th on tour in strokes gained around-the-green, and 73rd in strokes gained putting.
Again, I believe Jason’s history at Sawgrass should outweigh the stats for the season. Jason has made three straight cuts on tour, including a seventh-place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach, and a 18th place finish at the WGC-Workday.
Some of my other favorite 8K selections are Scottie Scheffler and Hideki Matsuyama.
Joaquin Niemann $7,700
My first 7K selection this week is Joaquin Niemann. Niemann being a 7K golfer this week is crazy. Niemann is always an 8K+ player, even a 10K+ player at times this season.
So far on tour this season Niemann sits 11th in par 5 efficiency 550-600 yards, 13th in greens in regulation, 43rd in strokes gained around-the-green, 48th in strokes gained on approach, 66th in strokes gained putting, and 80th in driving accuracy.
Niemann was set to make his first start in The Players Championship in 2020, but will now make it this year. Niemann is 10/10 on cuts so far this season, highlighted by back-to-back second place finishes at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and the Sony Open.
Cameron Tringale $7,200
My second 7K selection this week is Cameron Tringale. Any chance I can remind my readers of my first article I contributed to this site, about Cameron Tringale, I do.
So far on tour this season Tringale sits 25th in par 5 efficiency 550-600 yards, 39th in strokes gained putting, 41st in greens in regulation, and T46 in strokes gained on approach.
Tringale hasn’t played in The Players Championship since 2017, but he has made his last three cuts in the event, coming in 2015, 2016, and 2017. His best finish in that run, 16th in 2016.
Some of my other favorite 7K selections include Will Zalatoris and Abraham Ancer.
Keegan Bradley $6,900
Bradley comes into The Players Championship after a very solid top-ten finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week. Along with making three straight cuts on tour, Keegan has made his last four cuts at Sawgrass, highlighted by a seventh-place finish in 2018.
So far on tour this season Keegan sits 9th in strokes gained on approach, 31st in greens in regulation, 32nd in driving accuracy, 41st in par 5 efficiency 550-600 yards, and 93rd in strokes gained around-the-green.
Doug Ghim $6,200
Doug Ghim is my final 6K selection of the week. Ghim, who has made 10/13 cuts so far this season, is priced criminally low.
So far on tour this season Ghim sits 32nd in strokes gained on approach, 63rd in driving accuracy, T71 in strokes gained putting, 78th in greens in regulation, 85th in strokes gained around-the-green, and T92nd in par 5 efficiency 550-600 yards.
Ghim will be making his first start at The Players Championship.
Some of my other favorite 6K selections are Harold Varner III and Bo Hoag.
