Last week’s Players Championship produced some shocking results as highly ranked golfers in the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) failed to qualify for weekend play at TPC Sawgrass. Rory McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton were a few of the big names to miss the cut at the 2021 Players Championship. The failure of the big names to play well certainly made things difficult for those of us in the fantasy golf community to win DFS contests.

This week, the PGA Tour presents fantasy golf fans with the Honda Classic. Although this week’s field will not quite have the star power of the Players Championship, the Honda Classic should be an outstanding tournament to watch.

The 2021 Honda Classic will be played on the Champions Course at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This golf course received a re-design from golf legend Jack Nicklaus in 1990. The Champions Course is a par 70 that measures 7,125 yards. The course is known for the brutal “Bear Trap” that awaits players on holes 15-17.

The key statistics that I am focusing on this week are GIR (greens in regulation), proximity to the hole from over 200 yards, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approach, and strokes gained around the green.

*Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to clearly state that the purpose of this article is not to provide a specific lineup. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a Draftkings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

Here are my fantasy golf player selections for the 2021 Honda Classic!

Talor Gooch $9,300

Gooch has two top 12 finishes in his last three events played on the PGA Tour, including an impressive fifth place result at the Players Championship.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2021 Honda Classic field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Gooch ranks seventh in scrambling, seventh in strokes gained tee to green, 15th in strokes gained approach, and 12th in bogey avoidance.

Shane Lowry $9,200

The Irishman finished eighth at the Players Championship last week. Additionally, Lowry finished 21st at the 2020 Honda Classic. Let us not forget that Lowry won the 2019 Open Championship. I can assure you that this week’s field of golfers is far weaker than the one he defeated to notch his first major title in 2019.

Keegan Bradley $8,400

The 34 year old has three top 29 finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including a tenth place result at the Arnold Palmer Invitational two weeks ago.

Jhonattan Vegas $7,300

Vegas narrowly missed getting his first win of 2021 at the Puerto Rico Open last month. Vegas settled for a second place result as Brandon Grace pulled away down the stretch to win in Puerto Rico. Having stated that, Vegas did play very well in that event. Vegas also finished 16th at the 2019 Honda Classic.

Roger Sloan $6,500

The Canadian fired a final round 68 at the Puerto Rico Open last month on his way to a 22nd place finish. Sloan also finished 30th at the 2019 Honda Classic. I think Sloan presents outstanding fantasy golf value at the low Draftkings price of only $6,500.

Additional golfers I like: Daniel Berger $10,800: Lee Westwood $10,600: Brandon Wu $7,800.
