At each stop on the PGA Tour, there are players who play above their expectations and those who fall short of what was expected of them. Here at Pro Golf Now, we call them winners and losers. Here are the winners and losers from this week’s Valero Texas Open.

Winners

Jordan Spieth – It had been nearly four years since Spieth last won on the PGA Tour, but he got it done this week. The way he has been playing, it was just a matter of time before Spieth won, but he’s glad to have that monkey off his back.

More from Pro Golf Now

Charley Hoffman – If not for Spieth, Hoffman might have won this week. His 75 on Thursday set him back, but he rebounded nicely with rounds of 66, 65 and 66 to finish in second place.

Matt Wallace – Making his 37th career start on the PGA Tour, Wallace tied his career-best finish this week in San Antonio. A third-place finish could have been even better, but this week was a good one for Wallace.

Lucas Glover – He used a big weekend (70-66) to climb his way into a fourth-place finish. Glover recorded his best finish this season and his best since 2017.

Anirban Lahiri – A solo fifth-place finish was the best for Lahiri this season and his best since 2017. It was his 12th career Top 10 finish.

Losers

Phil Mickelson – Lefty shot a 79 on Thursday, a round that included him carding at 10 on the 18th hole. Mickelson may be a fan favorite, but it’s clear that his days of winning, or even competing, on the PGA Tour are probably over.

Tony Finau – One of the best players in the field this week, Finau shot 73-74 to miss the cut. He wasn’t awful, he just wasn’t good enough to get to the weekend. Not a great omen for Finau heading into the season’s first majors.

Henrik Stenson – He wasn’t as bad this week has he has been, but Stenson was still not around for the weekend. He shot 75 on Thursday and 73 on Friday to miss the cut by two shots. Stenson has made four starts on the PGA Tour in 2021 and has missed the cut in all four.

Zach Johnson – He shot 71 on Thursday and was in a pretty good spot to make the weekend. But he went 5-over par over the course of seven holes on Friday, shooting 76 and missing the weekend.

Kevin Stadler – He was in contention as late as Saturday before falling apart. Sunday was especially tough for Stadler, who shot a 41 on the front nine. He fell more than 30 spots in the standings on Sunday, finishing 54th.
