After shooting a 2-over par 74 on Thursday, Wiesberger was an afterthought to many golf fans entering Friday.

Wiesberger quickly made his presence known on Friday.

To start his second round, Wiesberger rolled in three consecutive birdies to pull under par for the first time since the front nine on Thursday.

Wiesberger recorded another birdie on the par-4 fifth to reach 4-under par on the day through just five holes.

Wiesberger topped off his bogey-free front nine with a birdie on the par-5 eighth, which pushed him to 3-under par for the tournament.

To begin the back nine, Wiesberger logged his sixth birdie of the round to push himself within one of Justin Rose, the leader at the time.

The first and only blemish of Wiesberger’s day came on the par-3 12th, where his tee shot found the backside bunker. The ensuing bunker shot from Wiesberger did not find the green either, which left him with a putt from off the green to save par. The putt wiggled past the hole and Wiesberger recorded his only bogey of the round.

Wiesberger quickly regained his lost shot with a birdie on the par-5 15th, which kept him in a tie for the lead at the time.
