The 2021 Masters still has two rounds left to play. Unfortunately for some big name players, they will be watching the event on television just like the rest of us.

There were quite a few of the world’s best players who struggled on Thursday and Friday at Augusta National. And now, some of those players will be spectators.

More from Pro Golf Now

Among those not making the cut were defending champion Dustin Johnson. After shooting a 74 on Thursday, DJ needed to make something happen on Friday to have a chance to continue his title defense this weekend. Instead, Johnson shot a 75 to miss the cut.

Sergio Garcia, another former Masters champion, also did not make the cut. Garcia shot a 76 on Thursday and came back with a 72 on Friday but came up one shot shy of making it to the weekend.

Brooks Koepka never really got anything going this week at Augusta. He shot a 74 to open his week and followed that with a 75 on Friday. He missed the cut by two shots.

Much like Koepka, this clearly was not the week for Rory McIlroy. It got so bad for Rory at one point that he actually hit his own dad with a shot. McIlroy shot 76 on Thursday and 74 on Friday, which was not enough to earn the opportunity to play this weekend.

One of the biggest surprises of the week was the play of Patrick Cantlay.

He was seen as someone who could content this week but he was, frankly, awful. Cantlay shot 79 on Thursday and 73 on Friday. He missed the cut by five shots.

Jason Day was another big name who had a bad week. The former major champion shot 77 on Thursday and 76 on Friday to sit well outside the cut line.

While the weekend will still be very exciting, it won’t be the same without these big names still in the mix.
