2021 Masters: Bryson DeChambeau fights back into contention
By DJ Cadden
Just five months after an extremely disappointing performance in the 2020 Masters showing, Bryson DeChambeau once again struggled at the Augusta National on Thursday.
After shooting a 4-over 76 on Thursday, DeChambeau regrouped and seemed much more prepared during Friday’s round.

DeChambeau began Friday’s round with three straight pars, which is exactly how he began on Thursday. However, a double bogey on the par-3 fourth set the tone for his Thursday round.
On Friday, DeChambeau played the fourth hole to perfection by finding the green from the tee box before finishing with a routine two-putt.
After his nearly perfect start, DeChambeau bogeyed the par-4 fifth hole.
Rather than let this define his round, DeChambeau quickly rebounded and never looked back.
On Thursday, DeChambeau’s double bogey signaled the beginning of the end for his opening round. After the fourth hole, DeChambeau bogyed three of the next eight holes before finishing with a 76.
Instead of collapsing, DeChambeau quickly got his emotions back in check before playing the par-3 sixth hole. After sticking his first shot just inside 10 feet, DeChambeau rolled in his first birdie of the round.
DeChambeau’s birdie on No. 6 was the first of three birdies over the course of last four holes of the front nine. Consecutive birdies on holes No. 8 and 9 gave DeChambeau a 2-under par 34 through his first nine holes of the day.
The hot streak would not last long, however, as DeChambeau carded a bogey on the par-4 10th. DeChambeau quickly gained his composure once again and recorded back-to-back pars.
DeChambeau rebounded in a big way over the last six holes, recording four birdies. With two bogeys and seven birdies on the scorecard, DeChambeau finished Friday with a 5-under par 67.
His 67 was good enough to push DeChambeau back to 1-under par for the tournament, which puts him in a tie for 17th and six shots behind Justin Rose, the 36-hole leader.
