Every week on the PGA Tour, there are players who fare better than expected and those who fall short of what was expected from them. Here at Pro Golf Now, we call them winners and losers. Here are this week’s winners and losers from the Valspar Championship.

Winners

More from Pro Golf Now

Sam Burns – He had held the 54-hole lead on tour before but had never finished off a win. That changed on Sunday when Burns shot 67 to win the Valspar by four shots over Keegan Bradley. At 24 years old, this probably won’t be the only time he wins on tour.

Viktor Hovland – The young talent opened with a pair of 69s but closed much more strongly. Hovland shot 68 on Saturday then shot 65 on Sunday to climb into a tie for third place.

Cameron TringaleHe may not win, but Tringale finds himself in the mix quite often. That was the case again this week as Tringale shot four rounds in the 60s to tie for third.

Abraham Ancer – He continues to prove that he is truly an elite player on tour. This week, Ancer finished solo fifth, another big finish for him on tour.

Vaughn Taylor – The 2020-21 season has not been a great one for Taylor but it was a good week in Florida for him. His tie for sixth allowed him to move up 26 spots in the FedEx Cup standings.

Losers

Patrick Reed – One of the highest-ranked players in the field, Reed shot a 70 on Thursday and a 72 on Friday to miss the cut. In a field like this, Reed should be competing to win, not just trying to make the weekend.

Gary Woodland – He once won here but that did not translate to this week. Woodland shot a 77 on Thursday and a 71 on Friday and missed the cut by seven shots. Definitely not his best week.

Emiliano Grillo – He opened the week with a 66 on Thursday and was just two shots off the lead. However, he shot 76 on Friday to not only fall out of contention but outside the cut line.

Scottie Scheffler – The young standout opened his week with a 73 but bounced back nicely with a 67 on Friday. He then shot 66 on Saturday to get into a tie for 12th place. But on Sunday, he shot 74 and slipped nearly 20 spots.

Keith Mitchell – He made the cut a 2-under par after shooting 70 on both Thursday and Friday. He shot 71 on Saturday to stay at that number. But an 82 on Sunday, the worst round by anyone all week, left him last among those who made the cut.
