2021 Wells Fargo Championship: Pro Golf Now Staff Picks to Win
By Tim Letcher
The PGA Tour is in Charlotte this week for the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship. The field is loaded with a number of the best players in the world in what should make for an exciting event.
Max Homa is actually the defending champion, having won here in 2019 when the event was last held. Homa has already won this season and is in the field again this week.

Justin Thomas, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson and Rory McIlroy are among those who are playing at Quail Hollow this week. Our staff writers have made their picks for this week and you can see them below.
Bryson DeChambeau
Kathy Bissell
Max Homa
Hans Geevers
Viktor Hovland
Josh Mullenix
Viktor Hovland has been relatively quiet the last six weeks before a T-3 finish last week at the Valspar. Despite not really being in contention, he did have top 25 finishes at the Masters and the Zurich Classic. Last week’s finish is encouraging at a place that demands ball striking like the Copperhead Course. Those same skills will be required this week at Quail Hollow. Hovland finished T6 in SG: approach and third in SG: tee-to-green. He wasn’t spectacular on the greens but still gained over a stroke on the field per round. If he continues the ball striking and makes just a couple more putts he might get the best win of his career.
Jon Rahm
West Valentine
I’m going with Jon Rahm. This is the type of course that challenges every part of your game. Rahm is the well-rounded guy that can meet those challenges. This will be a US Open-type of course. Not a week I expect to see a long-shot win.
Webb Simpson
Chris O’Day
Justin Thomas
Jay Wilhelm
Mike Randleman
He may not be a Wells Fargo Championship winner, but rest assured that Justin Thomas knows Quail Hollow quite well. He overcame an opening 73 to close in 66-69-68 to win by two at the 2017 PGA Championship. This type of long layout plays perfectly into his hands. JT can go bombs away, and did so in his win by leading the field in driving distance at 327.9. That, combined with finishing fourth in the field in strokes gained putting (7.228 total), and it was enough to stroll up the 72nd hole comfortably. Thomas didn’t even have his best iron game that week, which is normally his bread and butter. More on that in a little bit.
Tim Letcher
He’s the top-ranked player in the field and his ball-striking has been outstanding of late. If he can get some putts to drop this week, he will win. Thomas is my pick.
