There are the favorites to win and sleeper picks for the 2021 Byron Nelson. Then there is FORE Right, a pick farther away from the fairway than most.

We are back for our weekly article named FORE Right! Each week before that week’s PGA Tour event we will be choosing someone that isn’t on anyone’s radar to win. A lot of people write about favorites to win. You even see articles about sleeper picks. This one will be choosing one golfer that we think has a shot at winning out of nowhere.

It will be a little bit of a guess and a little bit of doing our homework while watching each week. The favorites are the same as a drive right down the middle of the fairway. The sleepers are the same as a drive just off the fairway in the first cut. Then there is FORE Right! It’s letting everyone know to look out, because you never know.

This week’s FORE Right looks at the Byron Nelson which is taking place at the TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. The golfer we chose to come out of nowhere is 42 year old Scott Piercy out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He has four PGA Tour wins in his career. His last win came in 2018 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with Billy Horschel in the tournament’s two-man team format. Scott’s last individual win was at the Barbasol Championship in 2015.

Piercy has competed in 16 tournaments in this 2021 season, and has made all but five cuts. After watching him for the past few years he makes a great candidate for our pick this week. He has finished in the top 20, four times this season including a T11 last week at the Wells Fargo. Scott is definitely striking the ball well and on the upswing of his season.

The 2019 version of the Byron Nelson was played at the Trinity Forest Golf Club which is also in Texas. Scott Piercy finished tied for second during that tournament. The state of Texas has been good to Piercy in his career and he’s due to grab one of those trophies in the Lonestar State. Sitting at 121 in the FedEx Cup Standings and 185th in the Official World Golf Rankings, makes Scott the perfect pick for this week’s FORE Right selection.

Scott Piercy has more above average performances in the state of Texas as he has finished well at the Houston Open on numerous occasions including a Top 10 finish in 2015, T24 in 2018, and T32 at this season’s edition.

It’s time for Piercy to push the envelope again in Texas and this time come out of nowhere and finish on top at this year’s Byron Nelson. A combination of finding his groove last week, his experience on tour, and always seeming to play well in Texas are multiple reasons why he’s our pick going FORE Right!
