Some of the world’s best players will not be playing the weekend at the 2021 PGA Championship. The tough test at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island left some big names outside the cut line halfway through the season’s second major.

Among those not playing the weekend is world number one Dustin Johnson. DJ continued his poor play of late by shooting 76-74 to miss the cut for the second straight major.

How about world number two Justin Thomas? Well, he won’t be around for the weekend, either. Thomas shot a pair of 75s to miss the cut by a shot.

World number four Xander Schauffele also missed the cut. Schauffele shot 73 on Thursday but had a 77 on Friday to miss the weekend.

That’s three of the world’s top four who didn’t make the weekend. (Note – world number three Jon Rahm was able to make the cut at 3-over par).

There are other big names that won’t be around for the weekend, either.

Sergio Garcia opened with a 77 on Thursday and followed that with a 73 on Friday. That left Garcia at 6-over, which was one shot outside the cut line.

Adam Scott won’t be playing the Ocean Course this weekend, either. Scott opened with a 78 on Thursday and even a 72 on Friday could not get him inside the cut line.

Among other former major winners who won’t be playing the weekend are Rich Beem, John Daly, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Shaun Micheel, Charl Schwartzel and Y.E. Yang.

While there are plenty of great storylines, including Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and others, at the 2021 PGA Championship, there might be even more great stories if some of these players had been able to make it to the weekend. Alas, the season’s second major will have to go on without these guys.
