Cameron Tringale had a very nice start to the 2021 PGA Championship at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island. Tringale briefly held the lead on the first day and ended up shooting a nice 2-under par round of 70 on Thursday.

Tringale hoped to spend Friday hanging around the leader board in hopes of getting himself into contention for the weekend. Instead, he went a long way in the other direction.

Playing the back nine first, Tringale got off to a good start. He parred the 10th hole before a birdie on the par-5 11th. He was 3-under for the championship at that point.

Tringale would par the 12th and 13th holes to stay at that number. But things started to go badly for him at the par-3 14th hole.

There, Tringale hit his tee shot left and into the rough. He pitched over the green with his second shot. He then pitched back over the green with his third. He finally got on the green with his fourth but needed two putts to complete his triple-bogey six. He fell back to even for the championship.

Things were about to get worse for Tringale. Much worse.

After a par at the 14th hole, Tringale had a complete disaster at the par-5 16th hole. His tee shot there found the water to the left. After a drop, he found the water again. After another drop, he found the native area with his fifth shot.

His sixth shot advanced him somewhat and his seventh got him back into the fairway. He got on the green in eight but was unable to make a putt for a nine. Tringale carded a 10 and dropped to 5-over par.

Unfortunately for Tringale, things did not get better. He would hit another ball in the water, this one on the par-3 17th hole, on his way to a quadruple bogey seven. He bogeyed the 18th hole to shoot a 12-over par 48 on his first nine.
