2021 PGA Championship: Brooks Koepka Blows It Again
By Tim Letcher
Brooks Koepka is one of the best golfers in the world and he had a chance to add to his legacy at the 2021 PGA Championship. But, for the second straight year, Koepka faltered on Sunday and blew a chance to add another major to his resume.
At the 2020 PGA at Harding Park, Koepka was on the verge of winning three PGA Championships in a row, after claiming the title in 2018 and 2019. However, a 76 on Sunday dropped him not only out of contention but also out of the Top 20.

Koepka was in a good position at the 2021 PGA with 18 holes to play. He came into Sunday’s round just one shot back of 50-year-old Phil Mickelson. In reality, it seemed almost as if Koepka was the favorite on Sunday.
He got off to a very good start on Sunday. Koepka birdied the first hole, while Mickelson bogeyed, and the Floridian took the lead.
But the downhill slide started for Koepka on the second hole. He got into the sand and struggled to get to the green. By the time he was done, he carded a double bogey, while Mickelson carded a birdie. The three-shot swing proved to be too much for Koepka to overcome. He would spend the rest of the day trying to chase down Mickelson.
Koepka would birdie six but immediately gave that shot back with a bogey on seven. He shot a 1-over par 37 on the front side.
As he made the turn, Koepka needed to make something happen.
He did, but it was not what he hoped for. Koepka bogeyed the 10th, 11th and 12th holes to fall out of contention. Even birdies on the 15th and 16th holes were not enough to catch Lefty. Koepka finished with a 74 on the day. Mickelson shot 73 and definitely could have been caught on this day.
Call it a bad day, call it a choke job or call it whatever you would like. The bottom line is that, for the second straight year, Koepka had a chance at winning the PGA Championship. And for the second straight year, he failed in a big way.
