2021 Charles Schwab Challenge: Jordan Spieth is Clear Favorite
By Tim Letcher
Jordan Spieth has been one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour in 2021. Now, he returns to a familiar place, the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where he hopes that trend will continue.
Since missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, Spieth has been on quite a roll. He finished T4 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he shot a sizzling 61 on Saturday. He finished T3 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he opened with rounds of 65 and 67.

At the Genesis Invitational, Spieth was T15. Then, he finished T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He slipped a bit at the Players Championship, finishing T48.
But when Spieth got back to his home state of Texas, he felt especially comfortable. He finished T9 at the WGC-Match Play in Austin. He then won the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio.
He finished T3 at the Masters before returning to the Lone Star State to finish T9 at the Byron Nelson. Last week in South Carolina, Spieth finished T30 in the PGA Championship.
But now, he’s back in Texas and looking to add to his already impressive season.
Spieth has played at Colonial eight times in his career and has made the cut every time. He won here in 2016 and has finished second twice (2015 and 2017) and finished T10 last year, when he was struggling. He has finished in the Top 15 at Colonial in seven of his eight starts.
All of this is to say that Spieth is the favorite this week at Colonial. Yes, the field includes a number of other impressive players, including Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Reed (plus PGA champion Phil Mickelson), but Spieth is the one to beat this week. His track record, and his outstanding play in the state of Texas this season, prove it.
