2021 Charles Schwab Challenge: Pro Golf Now Staff Selections
By Tim Letcher
The PGA Tour returns to Colonial Country Club this week for the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge. This is the site where the tour resumed play last year after a layoff due to COVID-19.
In last year’s event, Daniel Berger held off Collin Morikawa in a playoff. This year’s field is strong and should make for a good event.

DJ Cadden
Daniel Berger
Bill Felber
Repeat, repeat, repeat. In honor of Daniel Berger’s victory restarting the tour last spring, Berger wins again this year.
Collin Morikawa
Kasey Kuhrts
Justin Rose
Josh Chandler
Justin won the Charles Schwab Challenge in 2018 and he narrowly missed out on the playoff at this event last year on his way to a 3rd place finish. He has been playing some great golf recently and he notably had the putter working last week, a good sign that his game is rounding into shape just in time for this week.
Jordan Spieth
Mike Randleman
Jordan Spieth is playing in his home metropolis for the second time in three weeks. He contended at the AT&T Byron Nelson (T-9th) and now comes to a course that better suits his game in Colonial. The Dallas resident makes the short trip to Fort Worth for the Charles Schwab Challenge. He’s played this event annually since making it on the PGA Tour in 2013 with a win in 2016 as the highlight. Spieth has made every cut and finished no worse than T-32nd. The former Texas Longhorn finished T-2nd and just one shot back in 2015. That was another of a whopping six top-10s here at Hogan’s Alley.

Jordan Spieth has been one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour in 2021. Now, he returns to a familiar place, the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, where he hopes that trend will continue. Spieth is the favorite this week at Colonial. Yes, the field includes a number of other impressive players, including Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Reed (plus PGA champion Phil Mickelson), but Spieth is the one to beat this week. His track record, and his outstanding play in the state of Texas this season, prove it.
Will Zalatoris

It’s tough to gauge tournaments right after Majors. You wonder if some players aren’t coming off a long week and maybe not prepared as much as usual. For players still looking for a first win, every tournament feels like a Major. That’s why I’m taking Will Zalatoris. I love this kid and his game. He’s a bit of a longer shot this week, but his time is coming soon.
