Senior PGA Champion is Younger Than PGA Champion
By Tim Letcher
Alex Cejka played on the PGA Tour for many years, making a total of 414 starts on tour with just one win. But at the 2021 Senior PGA Championship, Cejka set a new standard for himself.
Cejka turned 50 in December and joined the PGA Tour Champions soon thereafter. His first start resulted in a T38 at the Cologuard Classic. About two months later, Cejka made his second start on the tour and he tied for second at the Chubb Classic.

His next start came at the season’s first major, the Regions Tradition. There, Cejka shot four rounds in the 60s to win his first senior major in his first start. He beat Steve Stricker in a playoff to take home the title.
The following week, Cejka tied for 26th at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. Then, he took a week off prior to this week.
At the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, Cejka was at it again. He shot 67 on Sunday to cruise to a four-shot win over Tim Petrovic. And, in the process, Cejka became a two-time senior major champion.
Cejka will look to continue his hot streak which, ironically, could be aided by Phil Mickelson’s win at the PGA Championship. Mickelson might be more inclined to continue to play on the regular tour instead of the Champions Tour, which would make it better for all of the players 50 or older. Mickelson has made just three starts on the Champions Tour and has won two of those three events.
In a bit of irony, Cejka, who won the Senior PGA Championship this week at Southern Hills, is actually younger than Mickelson, who won the PGA Championship last week at Kiawah Island. This is obviously the first time that has ever happened.
For Cejka, his red-hot start on the Champions Tour continued this week. He shows no signs of slowing down at this point.
