By Tim Letcher
Matt Kuchar had quite an eventful day on Thursday at the 2021 Memorial Tournament. He was all over the course while he was out there and eventually, his week ended prematurely.
Kuchar’s day started quietly with a par on the first hole. He then bogeyed the second hole, slipping to 1-over par on his round.

Things got interesting on the next three holes. On the par-4 third hole, Kuchar drove his ball into the right rough. On his second shot, he was able to advance the ball only about 40 yards, leaving him about 130 yards for his third shot.
With his third, Kuchar hit his ball into the water. After a penalty, he hit his fifth shot, from the drop zone, into the water. After taking another penalty, Kuchar got up-and-down from about 100 yards for an eight. It was a quadruple bogey that dropped him to 5-over on his round.
Kuchar made a routine par at the par-3 fourth hole. Then on the par-5 fifth hole, things got incredibly better. Kuchar drove it in the fairway and hit his second shot onto the edge of the green. Then, from about 40 feet, he drained his putt for eagle. He was back to 3-over. And, he had gone quad-par-eagle.
He would bogey the sixth and eighth holes to drop back to 5-over. That’s where Kuchar finished his front nine, shooting a 41.
On the back side, Kuchar’s slide continued.
Kuchar bogeyed the 10th hole to slip to 6-over par. However, he bounced back with a birdie at the 11th, getting back to 5-over par.
On the par-3 12th hole, Kuchar hit another ball in the water. After a drop, he hit his third shot onto the green, to about 20 feet. He would miss that putt and would settle for a double bogey, falling to 7-over par.
Kuchar would bogey the 13th and 14th holes to drop to 9-over par. At that point, he notified his playing partners that he was withdrawing due to a forearm injury. His week lasted just 14 holes, but it was quite an adventure for Kuchar.
