Rickie Fowler has not had a very good season on the PGA Tour. However, after playing well two weeks ago, his recent upswing continued on Thursday at the 2021 Memorial Tournament.

Fowler has made 18 starts on tour this season and has missed seven cuts. He has four Top 25 finishes and just one Top 10. But he has shown some signs of breaking out lately.

In early April at the Valero Texas Open, Fowler opened with a 76 on Thursday. He rebounded nicely with a 68 on Friday to make the cut. He then shot 69-70 on the weekend to end up in a tie for 17th place.

He did miss the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship and the AT&T Byron Nelson, although he really only had one bad round in those two events. Fowler shot 77 on Friday at Quail Hollow, ending his week.

However, Fowler’s best finish of the season came two weeks ago at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island. There, he shot 71 on Thursday, 76 on Friday, 69 on Saturday and 71 on Sunday. That left him at 1-under par and in a tie for eighth place. That was a solid finish, especially after he was not in the field at the Masters.

On Thursday at Muirfield Village, Fowler put together one of his most solid rounds of the year.

He opened with a par on the first hole, then got things rolling on number two. There, He drove it in the fairway and hit his second shot to about 20 feet. He would make the long putt to get into red figures.

After making three pars in a row to stay at 1-under, Fowler struck again. On the par-4 sixth hole, he drove it in the fairway and stuck his second shot inside 10 feet. He would make the putt to get to 2-under par.

The hot streak continued for Fowler at the par-5 seventh hole. He drove his ball in the fairway, then positioned himself nicely with his second shot, leaving about 100 yards to the green.

His third shot got him to about 15 feet from the cup. Fowler would make that putt to get to 3-under par.

After that, it was 11 straight pars for Fowler. That left him with a round of 3-under par 69. When he finished, he was tied for seventh place.

Fowler is surging right now and is hoping to take advantage of his hot streak. Now is the time, with the season more than half over.
