2021 Memorial Tournament: Big Names Litter Leaderboard
By Tim Letcher
The 2021 Memorial Tournament is nearly half over but the star power is still in full force in Central Ohio. Many of the biggest names in this week’s field are hanging out near the top of the leaderboard through two days of play at Muirfield Village.
The current lead of 8-under par is held by two of the world’s Top 15 players. World number three Jon Rahm sits at 8-under and still has five holes left on his second round. World number 15 Patrick Cantlay is at 8-under par and is through two rounds of play. Cantlay will have the advantage of not having to play in both the morning and afternoon on Saturday.

In third place is last year’s PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Scottie Scheffler. The native Texan is two shots behind Cantlay and Rahm. Scheffler has also completed his second round.
Three shots behind, at 5-under par, are world number five Xander Schauffele and everyone’s favorite commercial pitch man Rickie Fowler. They are joined at 5-under by Max Homa and Carlos Ortiz.
A total of seven players sit at 4-under par, four shots off the lead.
Among that group is the world’s sixth-ranked player, Collin Morikawa, who won on this course last year at the Workday. Tony Finau, the 13th-ranked player in the world, also sits at 4-under, as does the world’s 14th-ranked player, Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.
Joining those big names at 4-under par are Rafa Cabrera Bello, Branden Grace, Lucas Herbert and Jim Herman. All of those players are tied for eighth place with 36 holes remaining.
The prize for this week’s big names include a potential handshake with the biggest name on the property this week, host Jack Nicklaus, for the winner. Rahm was able to be that person last year and he, along with a lot of other big names, have a shot at that honor this year.
