Garrick Higgo is a name worth getting to know if you haven’t already. The recently-turned 22-year-old South African is making just his second start on American soil after making the cut (T-64th) in his debut last month at the PGA Championship.

Higgo’s been on a tear on the European Tour.

He won twice in three starts at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open and Canary Islands Championship with two more top-10s in his last four starts prior to the PGA.

Previously, Higgo won in just his second full year as a pro in 2020 on the Challenge Tour. He was a member of the International team at the 2017 Junior Presidents Cup who caught captain and countryman Trevor Immelman’s eye.

“I was immediately impressed by him,” Immelman said in a PGA Tour article. “Not just his game but his entire demeanor and personality was very mature and at ease. He just had a calmness about him that exceeded his age.”

Higgo is questing to become the first Junior International Presidents Cup member to qualify for the Presidents Cup. If he can do so for 2022, he’d be right back with captain Immelman.

Higgo could also play his way into the Olympics. He’s close in the rankings with Christiaan Bezuidenhout to grab the second spot out of South Africa along with a lock in Louis Oosthuizen.

Higgo’s still a little bit on the inexperienced side and will have to learn how to contend against stronger fields. With that said, the future still looks bright.

He ranks fourth on the Euro Tour in putts per green in regulation (1.69), 17th in driving distance (310.78) and 20th in sand saves (66.67%).
