Predicting the Next Five Golfers to Win Their First Event

Scottie Scheffler
The University of Texas has established themselves as one of the best schools in the country in terms of producing PGA Tour talent.
Jordan Spieth has proven to be the best of the Longhorns on tour, but 2018 graduate Scottie Scheffler has quickly proven to be yet another talented youngster from UT.
Since becoming a full-time member of the PGA Tour prior to the 2020 season, Scheffler has racked up 24 top-25 finishes in just 45 events. In addition, Scheffler has recorded 13 top-10 finishes, including nine finishes within the top-5.
While Scheffler has not proven to be elite in many statistical categories, he has proven to be really good in almost every way. Scheffler ranks within the top-30 in strokes gained off-the-tee, around-the-green and tee-to-green.
However, like many young golfers on tour, Scheffler’s play while approaching the green and on the putting surface has been the 24-year old’s downfall in many cases. Scheffler is No. 104 strokes gained approach-to-green and No. 97 in strokes gained putting.
Much like Zalatoris, if Scheffler can clean up his play on the green, a landslide of victories could be in his near future. Until then, Scheffler will continue to compete at a high level, but struggle to capture that elusive first victory.
