The PGA Tour goes to South Carolina this week for the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. While many of the world’s best players are taking the week off, there is some star power in this week’s field.
World number one Dustin Johnson is playing this week, along with Brooks Koepka. Locals like Kevin Kisner and Lucas Glover are also in the field.

Here are five groups to watch in South Carolina on Thursday and Friday.
Dustin Johnson, Kevin Kisner, J.T. Poston (Thursday 7:44 ET; Friday, 12:59 ET) – Johnson is the world’s number one player but he’s also a player who has been struggling. Getting himself right before the U.S. Open is the goal here. Kisner is a native of Aiken, South Carolina and should feel very comfortable here. Poston has no Top 25s in his last eight starts after a much better first half of the season.
Lucas Glover, Brooks Koepka, Keith Mitchell (Thursday 12:59 ET; Friday, 7:44 ET) – Glover is actually a professional ambassador at Congaree so he knows the course very well. Koepka will use this event as a warm-up for the U.S. Open and, as always, is one to watch. Mitchell has two top fives in his last five starts. He led at the Wells Fargo through 54 holes before falling to Rory McIlroy.
Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter (Thursday 12:48 ET; Friday, 7:33 ET) – Fitzpatrick is No. 21 in the world but is still looking for his first PGA Tour victory. Hatton seems to be coming back into form after a COVID-19 diagnosis earlier this year. Poulter seems to have the game to fit Congaree. If he can hole enough putts, he will be in contention.
Sungjae Im, Patton Kizzire, Brandt Snedeker (Thursday 7:33 ET; Friday, 12:48 ET) – Im will be making his 27th start on tour this season. He has 11 Top 25s so far this year. Kizzire had been hot until missing the cut last week at the Memorial. Snedeker has made six cuts in a row, including a pair of Top 10s.
Luke Donald, Harris English, Briay Gay (Thursday, 1:10 ET; Friday, 7:55 ET) – Donald is the former world number one who is looking to get his game back in shape. English is No. 26 in the world and won the Sentry Tournament of Champions earlier this year. Gay has missed 12 cuts in 19 starts but did win the Bermuda Championship earlier this season.
