Thomas, Morikawa, Schauffele and DeChambeau Are US Olympic Golf Team
Qualifiers for Olympic golf have been announced and for the U.S. Team, it’s Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau who will carry the stars and stripes. The alternates, in order, should any one of the four elect not to play, are Patrick Cantlay, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson and Tony Finau.
Medalists for the 2016 Olympics, where golf returned for the first time in more than 100 years, were Justin Rose ( England, gold medal), Henrik Stenson ( Sweden, silver medal) and Matt Kuchar ( U.S., bronze medal).
U.S. Open champ and world No. 1, Jon Rahm will play with Rafa Cabrera Bello for Spain, unless he elects not to participate. Dustin Johnson, ranked No. 2, has decided not to play because he wants to focus on the PGA Tour schedule and the FedExCup.
Europe has the largest number of golfers with 27 golfers from 15 countries. Following that is Asia with 12 players from eight countries, North America with eight players from three countries, South America with seven players from six countries, and Australia and Oceania and Africa with each having three players from two countries.

There will be 60 contestants in all. Selections are made based on world ranking with players in the top 15 being eligible. However, a maximum of four players from any country in the top 15 is allowed. The US has 10 golfers in the top 15 in the world rankings.
Even though Jon Rahm is the world’s No. 1 player, there are not three additional players from Spain in the top 15, and so only two from Spain will be on their team.
After the top 15, only two players are allowed from each country in order of a player’s world ranking. The lowest ranking by a player in the event is Anirban Lahiri, currently ranked 340.
